Apart from a few extra pounds around Charlie’s paunch, the sight and sound of talented twins The Proclaimers is as distinctive today as it was in the 1980s.
Now enjoying a popularity boom after the re-release of I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) for Comic Relief topped the charts this year, it was their most familiar, feelgood folk-rock which ignited Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall last night as the pair sang their hearts out in their thick Scottish accents.

The Proclaimers, aka 45-year-olds Charlie and Craig Reid, were on top form as they opened a superb 90-minute set with two tracks from their new album Life With You followed by a triumphant There’s A Touch and Restless Soul.
But the biggest cheers typically came with storming renditions of classics such as I’m On My Way and Letter From America.
A memorable performance of ballad Sunshine On Leith was worth turning up for alone, I’m Gonna Be raised the roof, Let’s Get Married had couples swaying and dancing, and an encore which included King Of The Road ensured that fans left in high spirits.
They may not be fashionable but their from-the-heart songwriting continues to have an enduring appeal.
