Dave and Carol are too good

bowls.jpgThe inaugural BCGBA Centenary Mixed Pairs competition at Winton Social has seen the title go to North Midlands as Dave Burdett and Carol Verdon bowled superbly all day and defeated Ian  Turrell and Christine Hardman 21-15 in the final.

Staffordshire’s two pairs Barbara Bartlett and John Melia, and Mick Brown and Brenda Fletcher bowed out in the first round.

However, a chance conversation between Staffordshire’s  secretary Mac Farlow and BCGBA Chief Executive John Crowther saw Mac and Barbara Bartlett enter the North Shropshire Mixed Pairs competition as late replacements.

Following a gruelling day of six matches and defeats of two pairs of home bowlers from the Prees Club, they emerged victorious with a 21-17 defeat of top Shropshire pair Phil and Helen Clee.

The Baggeridge four man team competition draws to an exciting conclusion tomorrow as four high class teams compete for this prestigious trophy.

On an immaculate Baggeridge green Nordley Liberals B comfortably defeated Heath Hayes to reach the finals and were joined by the Greville Arms.

The final of the Free Press Cup will take place at Hamstead Social tomorrow (11am start) as perennial rivals Woodfield Social and The George again compete for the title.

Rubery Owen romped to the division one title in the Wolverhampton Works League with only three defeats all season.

Coombs Wood came a gallant second four points behind the winners.

Dudley side Buffery Park were relegated and Wednesfield Cons and Sedgley Working Mens Club will replace them in the top division in 2008, having gained promotion from

The Heath Town League saw a nailbiting climax to the fight for the division one crown as Woodfield claimed the title on aggregate from Sedgley Ex Service.

Despite a fantastic effort from Sedgley Ex Service, who won their last game by one shot, Woodfield managed to easily defeat last season’s champions Nordley Liberals to take the crown.

The Willenhall League saw M&B Cheslyn Hay take yet another title as they saw off Hawkins Sports by two points. Mark Garbett (Heath Hayes), deservedly won the average title with 17 victories from eighteen to just pip Andy Roberts of Hawkins.

The Cannock League title went to the Windmill who were two points clear of Chadsmoor.

Boliden tied with Chadsmoor on twenty four points, however they had an inferior aggregate. Lynn Pritchatt emphasised her standing as one of the top female bowlers in the country by taking the league average title ahead of Richard “barnes wallis” Taylor Burton Manor.
