Expectation is back at Wolves - and summer signing Matt Jarvis will get his first taste of it tonight.
A low-key return at Nuneation Borough’s Liberty Way in the Birmingham Senior Cup won’t be a much of a cover for an injury comeback that is eagerly anticipated by Molineux insiders.
Despite their healthy league position the Molineux men are the third lowest scorers in the division - and their hopes of reversing that fact will land on Jarvis’ shoulders.
While goals have been a problem Wolves have also struggled to match the free-flowing football that typified their efforts last season - and the absence of a natural left winger has contributed.
The improving Stephen Ward has been willing, and on occasions incisive, but his performances have been those of a striker persuaded to play on the wing.
It will serve his best interests - and Wolves’ - if he returns to a striking role.
In Jarvis, McCarthy believes he has the raw pace and directness to match the alchemy of Michael Kightly on the right wing.
The Wolves boss will hope the right-footed Jarvis will be able to dovetail with the England under-21 winger in the same way that Michael McIndoe did last season, before his summer switch to Bristol City.
Perhaps sensing the anticipation surrounding Jarvis’ return, McCarthy was playing it cool today.
The winger is expected to be back in contention for the Charlton game on October 20 but without a pre-season behind him he may not be ready to play a full part in the league programme just yet.
It is worth remembering that Wolves travel to Cardiff 48 hours after the Addicks clash.
“It’ll be great to have Matt back but I’ve got to be a bit careful with him, though,” he said.
“He played at Grays in July and that is the only time he has played since he finished last season with Gillingham.
“It is a long time to be out for and I can’t expect him to be giving me the earth, moon and stars straight away.
“Our games come Saturday then Tuesday for the next few weeks and that is not going to happen when he’s just come back.
“We’ll have to be careful with him and just break him back into it gently.
“He’s only a young lad and I don’t want him to break down.”

All the very best of luck,Matt.
Here’s hoping for a long & fruitfull injury free time.
Would be very interesting to see if a fit again Jarvis gets in ahead of a slightly injured Ward
What odds does anyone think he’s got of getting in the first eleven or keeping Freddie company on the bench?
Good luck Matt,
Lets hope you make the same impact as Kightly.
By all accounts Jarvis is an exceptional player and will make us a real handful going forward. Here’s hoping that we can recreate some of that magic that we saw glimpses of last year with Kightly and McIndoe. For all the MM doubters out there, this is where you can start judging the man, when his full squad is out playing the way he wants them to play! Bring it on!!!!
“Despite their healthy league position the Molineux men are the third lowest scorers in the division”
You are outside the playoffs after 10 games !!!
Very healthy - more dingle spin !
Surely you wolves fans can see past these stories ?
p.s - which team do you think he will go to when he is fit ??
Happy_Baggie it means even though Wolves are playing bad, we are still in and around the play-off areas, so when we start playing who knows where we’ll be.
Happy Baggie? I have never known an away/rival fan have an unhealthy fetish. Wouldnt it be best to say something construction on your own board rather than coming onto ours. You strange bloke you seriously ought to be getting out more.
Jarvis should make a huge difference to us.
I have been waiting to see him since he signed in the summer.
Hopefully he’ll bring the pace and flair that’s been missing on the left all season.
5 HB we are 7th in the league and 2 points behind the “high flying” albion.
You no longer contribute healthy football banter to our pages but boring frogs spawn that we would all be better off with out!
It always amazes me how many of you unwashed read our reports.
I don;t read your reports, cos I’m just not interested in your team, not now, not then, not ever.
You obviously have an underlying interest in what we’re up to, this puts you under the microscope of suspicion as another closet Wolves fan.
Happy_baggie (read Wolves fan)
Playing poorly and in the mix, wait until we get firing!!!!!
Happy Baggie, If you were bankrupt, you would still have more money than sense. My guess is that you think you are funny. WRONG!!!!
Your beloved boingers are a whole 2 points better off than Wolves, and have had no injury worries yet. Let’s see how they do if they have a few players missing.
Bout time, he has very good control and composure on the ball, the Joe Cole of Championship. :p
Happy_Baggie
P.s. Get a life
Jarvis…Gibson…Seyi…Kightly
That should do the trick if you ask me. Bring it on Charlton.
5
Not sure what team he’d go to, he could ask Kamara, Koumas, Davies or Gera (or is he still with you, always hard to know with your lot, he may have gone or may be one of the ones waiting to go) for advice on clubs. 2 points off you, your so is your league position not to good either?
BEST OF LUCK LETS HOPE THIS IS PART OF A STEP TO 1ST TEAM PLAY AND LAYING ON LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES AND TAKEING A FEW AS WELL. I THOUGHT THE LAD SPOKE VERY WELL ON WOVES WORLD.
WE WILL BE LOOKING OUT FOR YOU
JAMIE LANYON HOLIDAY PARK CORNWALL CUBS JAMES AND JENNY
Happy_Baggie, no actually, I think considering how we’ve played, it is a healthy position. Look at this way, how many goals more than us have you scored? And what’s the difference? 2 points! I’d take that considering how we’ve played. If we start finishing teams like we should, we’ll be pushing for the title this season.
In reply to Happy_baggie, we may not have scored too many but we have conceded the second least amount of goals in the division.
Furthermore, we have murray, jarvis, gobern and mark davies out - all class players and we are only 2 points behind you.
Stick to your own site and do not worry about us!
he is not irish so probably on the bench lol!
Why did we let mcindoe go! some good signs though today and overall a good squad (a pacey defender still please) would like to see gleeson given a chance too.
reply to happy_baggie we might be the third lowest scorers but how many points did you get when you put 5 past qpr you still only got 3 just remember we are only trailing you by 2 points even though we are not yet banging in the goals i know goal difference is what your reply will be but i will say this is a marathon not a sprint lets all judge at the end of the season
Happy_baggie but we have the second best defence. So keep those 1-0 coming.
Bring it on
It’s looking bright at the Wolves.
Great news hope’ everything goes ok for matt a very promising player electric pace scaringly for other clubs.
Hey happy Baggie the saying goes that you are only as good as your last game!
Is this the same H_B that when some of my more boisterous chums were gloating over the 3 points lead we had over you early on, was insisting they were at this stage of the season of little consequence?
Are the 2 points lead you now have points that count double?
Consistency please H_B, consistency
Also we might not be scoring many but our old crocks at the back aren’t conceding many either.
If Jarvis is as good as Mick says he is the I can’t wait to see him play
I noticed that McIndoe was the star player for Bristol on Saturday. Maybe we miss him more than we expected. Strange the way he left and sadly he is another one detined to score against us at Molineux.
Happy-gabbie………we are not playing well and yet we are still well in the frame. You are a couple of points ag=head of us and you’re playing out of your skins.Soon we’ll start playing well and then we’ll see what happens.
well when fit he wont go to tescobaggies crow as much as you like we will still be in prem before you
Good luck to Matt and the lads tonight, I hope it all goes well.
As for the Happy Baggie
If we havent scored a lot it must also mean we have not let many in (old and bold defence)
Its not where you start its where you finish
The truth hurts
WE see the future is Gold and Black
Our team for a long time to come
Up the Wolves
This can only be good news for Wolves. With Darron Gibson joining aswell as Jarvis, and Gobern making there comebacks, competition for places should surely hot up around the Molineux.Anyone heard how long Greys out for?
good luck matt. the scotlands wolves.
Happy Baggie indeed needs to go out more and perhaps worry a little about his teams inability to get results against teams in the top half of the table - 8 goals conceeded from set pieces so far this season mmmmm…..Sandwell Town staying down
I have finally done it ………. i admit it!
I went over to the dark side of this site to see what the blue n white barcodes were up to and see how many of us actually comment on there pages, as i was wondering if they were over here on our pages because we egg them on on theres.
AND THE RESULTS ARE IN!
NO!
Not only are we not posting comments on there stories neither it seems is anyone else!
Infact it was like a peaceful yet uncomfortable walk through a grave yard!
Funny that!
guess we are just far more interesting than planet boggie!
I wish Mcindoe luck with Bristol City. It’s what you make it. MM has been a little stretched, it’s true and Mcindoe will be missed, until Jarvis comes to fruition and delivers the goods? To the waiting who? We, mere fans, can only suppose. Is Freddy ready? What of Jay? (Our Premiership Striker who can’t get off the bench?) The pre season euuphoria, the expected goal glut? That MM’s a tough cookie, what? Good move on Gibson. Up the Wolves
I said nothing derogatory about the wolves in post 5 - I only pointed out that the story says you are in a healthy league position- with which I disagree…
outside the playoffs by 1 - 2 - 3 points or goal difference is STILL outside - if you are 7th end of May you cant go up… so all I’m saying is it’s NOT a healthy position. Its aimed at the E&S not the team… so chill out !
Who’s backside is twitching most - “Not so Happy Baggy”s or Gordon Brown’s ?
They both support a bunch of losers!
David Bartley, Tipton.
HB Loves the attention, I notice at around 3 every day he comments on here. Do you have a job deckchair boy? or are you really a kid trying to look big?…Either way theres no excuse for commenting like 10 times a day..saddo.
Surely the terms ‘Happy’ and ‘Baggie’ are mutually exclusive?
Rosa scores TWICE and yet again cant get a game with MM? 7 goals in what 4 matches?
What more does he have to do? Change his name? Find an Irish family connection? Go out on loan to Sunderland?
Gibson (Young & Irish) on loan from Man U - attacking midfield/ playmaker? Rosa - same type/ profile scoring goals in the reserves cant get a game???
WHY MM? WHY?
B&T do you always moan?
Crowfish (32)
It`s called selective vision.
Hopefully Jarvis will be all he’s cracked up to be….Ward isn’t doing it for me on the left wing.
38 - Totally agree….Rosa has been on fire in the reserves and putting in all round good displays as well as scoring goals!! Come on Mick, give the lad a chance!!
37.
I bit like ” Wolves ” and ” Scoring “
I know a Gllingham season ticket holder who really rates this player. Trouble is he’s stepping up a division to a club where the expectation is far greater and he hasn’t played a game for 6 months - he will not be match fit. I fear too much is already being expected of him. He must be given time to settle and improve his fitness and the lack of a decent left back will not help him.
cant wait to see jarvis is action
he seems like a good adition to the squad
just hope there isnt to much pressure put on to his shoulders from the beginning
fenwolf 43 says “I know a Gllingham season ticket holder who really rates this player”.
Sums it up really !
If my name was Matt and I played for Wolves I’d probably change it to Garry or something as Garry’s seem to go on for ever and Matts are always injured!
I can’t wait to see Jarvis…
I love that one he did ….something about the year 2000…
I’VE BROUGHT A POT OF BLUE AND WHITE STRIPE PAINT BACK WITH ME FROM MY VILLA IN GREECE. It contains rust eater, so if Mr Peace would like to send HUMPY BOGGIE or one of his other sicko’s along to collect it I will be glad to hand it over as a contribution to the REFURBISHMENT of the Halfords Lane stand. Please supply your own brushes. Hurry before it’s too late. Boing clunk
I see someone sold Dudley a tin of stripey paint… oh dear, shall we tell him ??
Nah - he can put it with the grinder sparks and sky hooks…
48.
No refurb needed at the custard bowl as a lot of the seats haven’t been used in years…
haven’t you lot got any work to do????
talk about a non-story!
and its taken 50 odd posts to establish we’ve nothing serious to talk about…so we take pride in hurling meaningless abuse at one another to pass the time.
Don’t you hate international breaks?
They should scrap the qualifers to the top 16/24 international clubs and let estonia, northern ireland, luxembourg and the rest scrap it out for the crumbs and a prize of sitting at the top table during world cups and european championships…
48. Thought Villa was in Birmingham???
Happy, I do find you amusing sometimes and you are quite amusing and provide good banter, unlike Terry. However you do seem to have a bit of an unhealthy obssessiobn with these pages and site.
At last. Ward just aint doing it!
Good Luck Matt!
Rather have HB than Dr Blue- a bluenose can’t comment on anything football related due to NEVER having seen any (apart from when the good teams get to small heath)
HB 49 - I also happen to know a couple of Luton fans who couldn’t beleive you paid £2 million for an accident prone centre half !!!
We need somebody to get into the squad and replace what we lost when McIndoe left. He has been on fire for BC and we need our left winger to be performing at the same level!
56 wolfie.
I’m an Albion fan you muppet.
Fenwolf 57 - is that the accident prone centre half we just sold for £10M (thats ten million pounds) ??
Yeah, we look really stupid don’t we. DOH !
There are no posts on the albion pages because they can’t afford computers,, okay there are some lucky ones out there who can but they can’t read or write.
39 RW - Just felt that Rosa should be given a chance - thats all
60 HB - Isnt Davies on a season long loan with a possible view to being purchased?
62 - no, he is on loan with a signed agreement to join at the end.. we don’t just “loan” a £10M player. The villa HAVE to sign him at the end - there is no get out clause.. mugs !!
HB 60 - no it’s not - it’s Leon Barnett - don’t you even know your own players ? Apparently he can be every bit has rubbish as Breen (but you already know that if you’ve seen him play). At least Breen was free !
Fenwolf - the comment was about an injury prone centre half from Luton - HOW is barnett injury prone ?? He aint missed a game all season and he is playing really well so no wonder i didn’t recognise him from your description.
So either get you facts right, or better still - don’t comment on things you know nothing about.
(p.s - there is a reason Breen was free…)
HB - read it properly before you rant - I said accident prone ! Just when you think you picked up a bargain at £2 million he’ll drop a Breen type clanger, and then another etc…… Now do you understand ??? You Baggies crack me up - lots of banter but no idea!!! Oh and by the way I am only too well aware of why Breen was free - but at least I know who my players are.
I still have no idea what you are on about… accident prone ??
If you mean Luton let in lots of goals - yes we know.. but at the albion you have to agree its a little different.
Barnett is proving a great signing and a bargain at £2M.
He has not been responsible for ANY of our goals against this year and we have agood defensive record - he is already better than davies as he is braver as well as a decent defender.. your point has no basis of fact - so again, if you don’t know what you are talking about - don’t bother.
