Jarvis back for Wolves

jarvis.jpgExpectation is back at Wolves - and summer signing Matt Jarvis will get his first taste of it tonight.

A low-key return at Nuneation Borough’s Liberty Way in the Birmingham Senior Cup won’t be a much of a cover for an injury comeback that is eagerly anticipated by Molineux insiders.

Despite their healthy league position the Molineux men are the third lowest scorers in the division - and their hopes of reversing that fact will land on Jarvis’ shoulders.

While goals have been a problem Wolves have also struggled to match the free-flowing football that typified their efforts last season - and the absence of a natural left winger has contributed.

The improving Stephen Ward has been willing, and on occasions incisive, but his performances have been those of a striker persuaded to play on the wing.

It will serve his best interests - and Wolves’ - if he returns to a striking role.

In Jarvis, McCarthy believes he has the raw pace and directness to match the alchemy of Michael Kightly on the right wing.

The Wolves boss will hope the right-footed Jarvis will be able to dovetail with the England under-21 winger in the same way that Michael McIndoe did last season, before his summer switch to Bristol City.

Perhaps sensing the anticipation surrounding Jarvis’ return, McCarthy was playing it cool today.

The winger is expected to be back in contention for the Charlton game on October 20 but without a pre-season behind him he may not be ready to play a full part in the league programme just yet.

It is worth remembering that Wolves travel to Cardiff 48 hours after the Addicks clash.

“It’ll be great to have Matt back but I’ve got to be a bit careful with him, though,” he said.

“He played at Grays in July and that is the only time he has played since he finished last season with Gillingham.

“It is a long time to be out for and I can’t expect him to be giving me the earth, moon and stars straight away.

“Our games come Saturday then Tuesday for the next few weeks and that is not going to happen when he’s just come back.

“We’ll have to be careful with him and just break him back into it gently.

“He’s only a young lad and I don’t want him to break down.”

All the very best of luck,Matt.
Here’s hoping for a long & fruitfull injury free time.

Would be very interesting to see if a fit again Jarvis gets in ahead of a slightly injured Ward
What odds does anyone think he’s got of getting in the first eleven or keeping Freddie company on the bench?

    Good luck Matt,
Lets hope you make the same impact as Kightly.

By all accounts Jarvis is an exceptional player and will make us a real handful going forward. Here’s hoping that we can recreate some of that magic that we saw glimpses of last year with Kightly and McIndoe. For all the MM doubters out there, this is where you can start judging the man, when his full squad is out playing the way he wants them to play! Bring it on!!!!

You are outside the playoffs after 10 games !!!

Very healthy - more dingle spin !

Surely you wolves fans can see past these stories ?

p.s - which team do you think he will go to when he is fit ??

  6. Wanderer said:

Happy_Baggie it means even though Wolves are playing bad, we are still in and around the play-off areas, so when we start playing who knows where we’ll be.

Happy Baggie? I have never known an away/rival fan have an unhealthy fetish. Wouldnt it be best to say something construction on your own board rather than coming onto ours. You strange bloke you seriously ought to be getting out more.

Jarvis should make a huge difference to us.
I have been waiting to see him since he signed in the summer.
Hopefully he’ll bring the pace and flair that’s been missing on the left all season.

It always amazes me how many of you unwashed read our reports.

I don;t read your reports, cos I’m just not interested in your team, not now, not then, not ever.

You obviously have an underlying interest in what we’re up to, this puts you under the microscope of suspicion as another closet Wolves fan.

Playing poorly and in the mix, wait until we get firing!!!!!

Happy Baggie, If you were bankrupt, you would still have more money than sense. My guess is that you think you are funny. WRONG!!!!

Your beloved boingers are a whole 2 points better off than Wolves, and have had no injury worries yet. Let’s see how they do if they have a few players missing.

Not sure what team he’d go to, he could ask Kamara, Koumas, Davies or Gera (or is he still with you, always hard to know with your lot, he may have gone or may be one of the ones waiting to go) for advice on clubs. 2 points off you, your so is your league position not to good either?

Happy_Baggie, no actually, I think considering how we’ve played, it is a healthy position. Look at this way, how many goals more than us have you scored? And what’s the difference? 2 points! I’d take that considering how we’ve played. If we start finishing teams like we should, we’ll be pushing for the title this season.

  18. BrummieRobWolves said:

In reply to Happy_baggie, we may not have scored too many but we have conceded the second least amount of goals in the division.
Furthermore, we have murray, jarvis, gobern and mark davies out - all class players and we are only 2 points behind you.
Stick to your own site and do not worry about us!

he is not irish so probably on the bench lol!

Why did we let mcindoe go! some good signs though today and overall a good squad (a pacey defender still please) would like to see gleeson given a chance too.

  20. baz1wolves said:

reply to happy_baggie we might be the third lowest scorers but how many points did you get when you put 5 past qpr you still only got 3 just remember we are only trailing you by 2 points even though we are not yet banging in the goals i know goal difference is what your reply will be but i will say this is a marathon not a sprint lets all judge at the end of the season

Is this the same H_B that when some of my more boisterous chums were gloating over the 3 points lead we had over you early on, was insisting they were at this stage of the season of little consequence?
Are the 2 points lead you now have points that count double?
    Consistency please H_B, consistency
Also we might not be scoring many but our old crocks at the back aren’t conceding many either.

Happy-gabbie………we are not playing well and yet we are still well in the frame. You are a couple of points ag=head of us and you’re playing out of your skins.Soon we’ll start playing well and then we’ll see what happens.

I wish Mcindoe luck with Bristol City. It’s what you make it. MM has been a little stretched, it’s true and Mcindoe will be missed, until Jarvis comes to fruition and delivers the goods? To the waiting who? We, mere fans, can only suppose. Is Freddy ready? What of Jay? (Our Premiership Striker who can’t get off the bench?) The pre season euuphoria, the expected goal glut? That MM’s a tough cookie, what? Good move on Gibson. Up the Wolves

  34. Happy_Baggie said:

I said nothing derogatory about the wolves in post 5 - I only pointed out that the story says you are in a healthy league position- with which I disagree…

outside the playoffs by 1 - 2 - 3 points or goal difference is STILL outside - if you are 7th end of May you cant go up… so all I’m saying is it’s NOT a healthy position. Its aimed at the E&S not the team… so chill out !

Gibson (Young & Irish) on loan from Man U - attacking midfield/ playmaker? Rosa - same type/ profile scoring goals in the reserves cant get a game???

I know a Gllingham season ticket holder who really rates this player. Trouble is he’s stepping up a division to a club where the expectation is far greater and he hasn’t played a game for 6 months - he will not be match fit. I fear too much is already being expected of him. He must be given time to settle and improve his fitness and the lack of a decent left back will not help him.

  63. Happy_baggie said:

62 - no, he is on loan with a signed agreement to join at the end.. we don’t just “loan” a £10M player. The villa HAVE to sign him at the end - there is no get out clause.. mugs !!

  64. Fenwolf said:

HB 60 - no it’s not - it’s Leon Barnett - don’t you even know your own players ? Apparently he can be every bit has rubbish as Breen (but you already know that if you’ve seen him play). At least Breen was free !

  65. Happy_baggie said:

Fenwolf - the comment was about an injury prone centre half from Luton - HOW is barnett injury prone ?? He aint missed a game all season and he is playing really well so no wonder i didn’t recognise him from your description.

So either get you facts right, or better still - don’t comment on things you know nothing about.

    (p.s - there is a reason Breen was free…)

  66. Fenwolf said:

HB - read it properly before you rant - I said accident prone ! Just when you think you picked up a bargain at £2 million he’ll drop a Breen type clanger, and then another etc…… Now do you understand ??? You Baggies crack me up - lots of banter but no idea!!! Oh and by the way I am only too well aware of why Breen was free - but at least I know who my players are.

  67. Happy_Baggie said:

I still have no idea what you are on about… accident prone ??

If you mean Luton let in lots of goals - yes we know.. but at the albion you have to agree its a little different.

Barnett is proving a great signing and a bargain at £2M.

He has not been responsible for ANY of our goals against this year and we have agood defensive record - he is already better than davies as he is braver as well as a decent defender.. your point has no basis of fact - so again, if you don’t know what you are talking about - don’t bother.
