Wulfs on song against Robins

afcw-v-dudley-town.JPGWulfs, sponsored by Call Print Dudley, bumped into a couple of familiar faces when they travelled to Bridgnorth Town’s heavily sloping Crown Meadow ground to face Dudley Town with both Kulveer Jeer and Graham Ashton in the opposition line up.

With the slope in their favour in the first half, Wulfs set about trying to build up a half time advantage worth defending in the second half and had a chance as early as the 7th minute when Liam Evans sent in a corner and Andy Mitchell headed over the bar unchallenged.

Wulfs had to wait until the 16th minute to take the lead. It would be nice to say that Liam Evans delivered a clever low corner, Oli Meanley produced a cute step over and James Skedgel drilled a shot goalwards but the truth is Liam Evans mis-hit his corner, Oli Meanley only succeeded in producing a complete air shot, James Skedgel scuffed a shot goalwards, Andy Mitchell swung a leg but only half connected from close range forcing the keeper to block.

Fortunately Ricky Anslow was on hand to drill home the rebound. Dudley tried to hit back immediately and went close when Graham Ashton played a ball into the feet of Kuljinder Shoker and he turned on the edge of the area before dragging his shot well wide.

It proved to be a costly miss as Wulfs doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute.

Stewart Mason played a ball down the left flank and Simon Hardle, of all people, produced a fine flick header on to Andy Mitchell who cut inside his man before drilling home a low shot at the keepers near post.

Things got better in the 27th minute as Wulfs made it three after poor defending from Dudley presented the ball to Simon Hardle out wide on the right and he made them pay by turning his man and curling a shot into the top corner of the net.

Dudley almost reduced the arrears when Danny Ashton hit a long range dipping shot but keeper Danny Tipton produced a marvellous save to keep the ball out.

At the other end Ricky Anslow almost grabbed his second after being put clear but an outstretched arm from keeper James Pemberton put a stop to his attempt to lift the ball over the advancing keeper.

A 3-0 half time lead usually means game over but on the slope of Bridgnorth nothing can be taken for granted.

Wulfs were forced into a half time change as keeper Danny Tipton, who had been carrying an injury in the first half, was replaced by his brother Tim.

Fortunately Wulfs added a fourth on 49 minutes to kill the game off.

Simon Hardle released Andy Mitchell down the left and he curled a cross in behind the defence for Ricky Anslow to sweep home from close range.

Dudley were rocked but almost pulled a goal back on the hour when Martyn Smith cut in from the left and hit a low shot just the wrong side of the post.

Wulfs had two good chances to increase their lead.

First debutant Fraser Houston danced to the by-line before cutting across goal where the keeper could only push the ball into the path of striker Ricky Anslow but he fired over from close range.

Next Andy Mitchell crossed in from the right giving Liam Evans a free header from six yards but he could only 50p it well wide but it wasn’t to matter as Wulfs held on for a comfortable victory.
