Villa blog: Hammers worries

wd2216318.jpgSo, another big game tomorrow, and more high expectations but I’m a little more nervous than I usually would be for a game against the likes of West Ham writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.

I think that’s down to the Spurs game, and wondering what effect it will have on the team.

Looking back I think it was just one of those freak games that happens every season to someone.

I don’t expect us to make a habit of conceding four, nor would I expect us to be surrendering any three goal leads again anytime soon.

If both teams had defended properly, and the linesmen had done their job, it would have been a more reasonable 1-1 draw.

Hopefully we can put this down to being a relatively young team on a steep learning curve, and an out of character night of poor decisions by our manager.

I’m also apprehensive over Marlon Harewood.

I don’t think he’s good enough for us, but if he gets booed when warming up or if he makes an appearance on the pitch, I’d find that distasteful.

He didn’t work hard enough against Spurs, but I’m sure Martin O’Neill made this perfectly clear to him after the game, and no Villa player should ever be booed before they’ve even kicked a ball.

We are supporters, we should get behind every player selected by Martin, irrespective of our feelings towards them.

Booing the team or an individual serves no purpose whatsoever. Maloney should return to the squad, and i’d say he deserves to start.

He and Young can rotate on either flank.

We need to create chances for Luke Moore and Gabby Agbonlahor, because we can’t rely on them creating goals from nowhere.

It’s too early to talk about must win games but we need to look to pick up maximum points at home wherever possible.
