Wolves new boy closer to bow

wd2185837jarvis.jpgWolves new boy Matt Jarvis is edging closer to a Molineux debut after playing in a practice match yesterday.

Jarvis has been out of action since suffering a hip injury in the pre-season tour of Ireland but is now pushing for a first team start after impressing in training.

The 21-year-old lined up alongside Lewis Gobern yesterday for a Wolves XI against an Academy side at Compton Park - and made it through the game unscathed.

Lack of match practice means Jarivs is unlikely to figure against Coventry on Saturday, but he will be available for the home clash with Charlton after the international break.

Fellow winger Gobern is another who will step up his fitness drive with a reserve team game against Nuneaton next week.

Gobern is delighted to be playing again after a ten-month absence from the first team with ankle and hamstring problems.

“It was great to be involved again in an 11 v 11 game on a full-sized pitch,” he said.

“I hadn’t played since going over on my left ankle in the first pre-season friendly at Grays, so it was good to step up the training I’d been doing over the previous four or five days.

“I felt a bit tired by the end, although it was only an hour or so, and am looking to stack up the games over the next two or three weeks.”

Gobern wants to play in the Birmingham Senior Cup clash with Nuneaton next week - and hopes to line up against Shrewsbury in the reserves in a fortnight.

“I hope to be involved at Nuneaton and then in the reserve game at Shrewsbury the following week because it’s all about stepping up my fitness,” he said.

“As a winger, you rely on explosive pace which puts a strain on your body. It’s not a position where you can easily play with injuries.

“Hopefully I’m on the way back and I can start to think again about making a name for myself.”

yes thats great news but remember the tactics, dont give the ball to elliot then freddie may get a chance and the white round thing is supposed to go through and between the 2 white posts.

Thank god! Seriously I saw him pre season in Ireland, he looks very sharp and Is an attacking MF who can even play striker.

Hope fully Charlton will be his debut, he’s better than McIndoe.

Come on Jarvo, we need you in the team asap!

we need him to be good

ward simply doesnt provide a threat as a winger

    he not particularly skillful
    not particularly fast
    hasnt scored from his position

    so whats he doing

at moment he is only worth his share in headers from corners defensivly like drogba n goal kicks winning flicks

morons-call yourself wolves fans, all you can do is knock the lad and take the p–s before he has played for the first team, if you can’t have a positive thought p–s off up the poorthorns, as for the crappies crawl back into your box daylights coming.

I saw Jarvo play for the Gills a few times last season cos I live in Kent, he was easily their best player, most opposing sides had to put 2 players on him and he still played well,he is better than Mckindoe and hopefully will give the wolves a boost.

This is the news we’ve been waiting for as he’s level pegging with Kights for pace and attacking aggression and will need at least 2 players on him to contain him as Barry Hayward said in post 10. I know Gobern’s on his way back but Jarvis is the man for that slot ahead of Lewis and certainly ahead of Wardy, I’m not knocking Wardy but he’s a striker not a natural left winger so dont get me wrong on that issue. I can see Jarvis making a big impact in this squad if he can keep off the physio’s bench.

We need Jarvis in the team and we need Gobern fit and challenging for a first team place.
Ward has done OK for us and he’ll certainly be a good asset to the squad keeping the pressure for places on Jarvis and the forwards. We’ll have 2 players for both wing positions, all of whom can be trusted. Sounds good to me. Now, let’s just find some shooting boots!

Jarvis will make a great difference to the team.
Currently teams are able to watch Kightly very closely since Ward on the left (injured? and out of position) doesn’t pose any great threat. They won’t be able to do that with Jarvis on the pitch.
The lad is seriously quick and can shoot too. Teams are going to find it hard to deal with that sort of pace on both wings.
Might be the boost we need to finish teams off. Lets face it, most of our goals last season came from midfield, we might start to get a few more from there!
Take the heat out of the striker debate ;-)

I know it’s getting kinda of sad now where every story is being used to have a go at Wolves. I know some criticism is justified, but the hatred I’m seeing here is very sad indeed, and I believe is not a true reflection of the loyal wolves fans who have seen far worse times than we have now. If we win Coventry were away and going again on a good run. It really is pathetic and like the man said above me you should be ashamed yourselves. One Wolves.. One direction.

Yipee a natural for the left hand side, as long as he keeps away from Tony Daley he will be ok!!!

I would play him now even if he isnt fully 100% got to be better than clueless one dimensional Ward

Jarvis will be like a new signing,he,ll be first choice on the left of mid, he would have been playing from the first game of the season if fit.

Wardy filled in for jarvis and has been ok, just ok. He was asked to play there(out of position) by his manager. Give the lad a big hand for trying his best.

    Its a squad remember peeps.

Get jarvis in the side asap.

Give m.ward a break and get him out from the wing and instead in his rightfull place up front feeding Freddy.

its good lewis & javis are coming back…. but will they get past MM favourites? thats the real question…. MM doesn’t do change…

I would just like MM to mix the team up a bit, keep everyone on there toes, and it gets all the players trying… if you know you aren’t going to get in, whats the point of putting it in the reserves?

    What’s going on!!!
Talk about building up the pressure on the guy. He hasn’t even really kicked a ball for us yet and we’re building him up to be the answer to all ills, just cos he had a couple of decent games for Gillingham?!?!?!?!

Let’s just wait and see, cos some of you lot will be the same ones that start slating him if he doesn’t score a brace in his first outing!!!

I hope he does well, and we need someone more natural in that position than Wardy (still love the guy) but let’s just wait and see.

As for you plebs from the wrong side of town, as a wolves fan I don’t bother reading your reports as I have no interest in your team whatsoever.
