Life in miniature a passion

Yet one Black Country group has proved it only takes a bit of creativity, dedication and a spark of imagination to construct a house so professional that they can sell for good money.

The Wolverhampton and Districts Dolls House & Miniature Society showed off its latest creations last night, all made by members with no special expertise in assembly.

The group, founded in Penn in 1991, started with the aim of proving spectacular doll houses can be created by almost anyone if the passion and effort is there.

Dozens of doll homes were on display, with larger models 18 inches tall selling for £35 to any members of the public wanting one to show off in their real home.

The exhibition, staged last night at Penn United Reformed Church in Penn Road, showcased dozens of miniature models including hotel rooms, flats, front rooms and entire four-bed homes.

Martin Thorpe, aged 16, is the youngest member of the 26-strong group. The teenager, of Barnwood Road, Pendeford, said: “I heard about this club through my nan and decided to give it a go. It’s been a great experience and is a real hobby now.”

Founder Jayne Morrison, 53, of Grendon Gardens, Penn, said: “We welcome anyone who wants to come. You meet so many lovely people.”

The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 7.30pm at Penn United Reformed Church, and wants new members. The group website is www.waddhams.co.uk or call 01902 833848.

Thousands of fantastic holidays to choose from!

Its nice to see your group still going. I used to run a club in the West Midlands and had to sell all of my houses when I came to live in Tenerife. I was very diappointed to return for a weeks holiday only to find that all the shops I regularly frequented are now closed and I couldn’t find anywhere still operating. I wanted to start my hobby again here in Tenerife. The best I could come up with was a shadow box but I struggle to find the bits and peices I need. Good on yer gang, I wish you all well.
