Tony Mowbray was today crowned Championship manager of the month for September.
Mowbray won the award after leading the Baggies to 13 points out of a possible 15 to muscle their way into the division’s early season pacesetters.
The Baggies boss pipped Watford’s Aidy Boothroyd, Bristol City boss Gary Johnson and Charlton chief Alan Pardew to the gong.
Mowbray got the nod after leading Albion to more points than any of their rivals, and also scoring 15 league goals during the month.
They thrashed QPR 5-1 and Ipswich 4-0 at The Hawthorns, and also became the first side to win at Scunthorpe in a league game in 2007.
It’s Mowbray’s first award since joining Albion after twice being shortlisted last season.
“I’m not sure satisfaction at winning the award is the right word,” said Mowbray.
“We are on a journey and we’ve got our aims to get out of this division.
“It’s still very early days and all we’re trying to do at this stage is pick up points and entertain.
“I’m happy enough and at the moment we have done ok.
“We have scored plenty of goals and defensively we are much tighter.
“If you can get that balance right between scoring goals at one end and keeping them out at the other you won’t be too far away.”
Mowbray praised his players’ early season work after rebuilding the squad over the course of the summer.
“I’m not really interested in finance, I’m just interested in good football players,” he said.
“We brought in plenty of money over the summer and we used that to bring in a few players.
“This group of players we have now are fantastic to work with. They look you in the eye and they’ve got the hunger to want to learn and develop.”
The award was announced by Sky pundit Chris Kamara who said: “We had to give it to Tony Mowbray with four wins and a draw during the month.
“The teams that have come down from the Premiership - Watford and Charlton - as well as West Brom are already up there and they’re the money teams.
“That’s a worry to the rest because the big boys are up there already.”
Leeds boss Dennis Wise won the League One award, while former Wolves captain Paul Ince, now in charge of MK Dons, was pipped to the League Two prize by Barnet’s Paul Fairclough.

He has won this despite 3 other teams going the month unbeaten and depite the fact that we aint top of the league.
This award reflects the STYLE of play, the number of goals scored, the quality of our players and the general good work done by Tony and the team… i feel proud and privileged to watch this football.
Congratulations to TM, all the staff and the team.
Boing Boing !!
Well done for a good start to the season, playing good attacking football - sincerely hope it isn’t the usual ‘kiss of death’.
Well done TM.
Let’s hope you get the award in May.
Well deserved & well done. However, it WAS a team effort,
It be a Team of the Month award !
Wolves are only 3 points from the playoff positions, but 4 points from the Drop-Zone.
Can you imagine the E&S headline if MM had won this award…
“McCarthy voted greatest” or “Super Mick the number 1″.
We get “award for albion manager” - A more understated headline I can’t imagine - bet the journo’s were typing with gritted teeth.
Get used to it guys - its the first of many !!
5, Its because its no big deal, anyway read something else if E&S disappoint you, or more sensibly, support Wolves!
Don’t think it will bother him, he’s just doing his job. Saying that if he gets the next 8 he’ll be delighted cause would mean us being champs!! Very good start to season keep it up boys..
P.s weren’t stoke a horrible time wasting bunch of clay heads. Really did my head in but fair play the lads stuck at it and were very unlucky in the end not to get 3pts. Oh well roll on sat..
Boing boing.
Is there an award for the AC Milan Goalkeeper - Dida for his dive last night?
6 - nah… the chance to keep laughing at you lot is too good to give up.
As for being no big deal - you will probably say that when we get promoted - I can see it now !!
Get used to headlines like this cos its gonna be a regular thing.
Sandwell massive.. HA HA HA HA HA. You lot need to do that in your relegation dog fight.. lol.
Well deserved award TM congrats
But HB I have difficulty with:
“if MM had won the award….”
That just does not compute
Sorry can’t understand it
Nope don’t get it
Stuck at MM / won / award
Those words just do not go together
Albion Wizards - sory about that mate.
Actually if MM did win, the headline could read..
“MM wins award despite being 12th with a very average team”
BAT - I believe he was awarded the Rivaldo trophy for overacting on a football pitch.
11
I got stuck at MM/won
TM’s comments on winning.
“It’s very early on in the season and we’ll take each game as it comes and try and entertain as we go along.
“So far we’ve scored plenty of goals and our defence is much tighter - it’s all about getting that balance right.
“The group of players we’ve got here are fantastic to work with.
“They look me right in the eye and want to learn and develop.”
I wonder if our friends in Staffordshire have such a good understanding between manager and players…..let’s ask Freddy…
Congrats TM 1st stage of your job done, being there or there abouts early on….look forward to us finishing the job.
Lets hope its the proverbial kod and that you enjoy back to back defeats throughout the rest of October. I sincerely mean that too !!
Well done Tony…
Much Deserved award and a really great start for your team well done…
———————————–
Im sure Freddy Eastwood won the player of the month in August… look what he got the boot from the first team!
He deserves it to be fair.
Albion are playing some smashing football.
Mick
we know you mean it,
but we really dont give a toss.
toodle pip.
…and thats why you never see pics of TM smiling…
Did they use a fish eye lens ?
I look like that in the back of a spoon..
Great trophy by the way - good job it aint the pedigree chum league..
YOU KNOW WHAT NORMALLY HAPPENS AFTER MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARDS
HOPE THEY PROVE ME WRONG
COME ON YOU BAGGIES
Well done TM and the boys,
Can someone help me is a proverbial kod some sort of Chinese fortune cookie made out of fish?

S’hampton , Colchester , B’pool , Norwich ( a**e of a place to get to )
No can’t see it
Dream on Wuffie Mick.
he who laffs last! tescos sux
kiss of Death, guarenteed you lot will lose your next match, always happens.
Remember all you gloating Albion fans, you have set yourselves up for a big fall, and you all know you will go through a lean spell this season it happens TO ALL TEAMS.
HURRAY - keith from blockhead is back… 2 months for not paying the old council tax was it ??
Still, straight in with a sabre edged comment - its like you have never been away.
Keith from Bloxwich.
has it taken you all afternoon to think of that witty remark ?
Blockhead from Bloxwich
23 - Norwich - just “a**e of a place” will do.
well done the special one, richly deserved :-)boing boing
I think that may be a smile. Well we’ll call it a smile anyway. It’s somewhere between a smile and a frown.
Joking apart and speaking as a neutral, if that’s possible, he deserves it.
As I have said before though “It’s a long hard season”.
Whatever our bitter and whinging fans think, we will be there or there abouts.
Obv its better to win the trophey than not (as your obv performing well if you win it)
but albion fans are acting like they got promoted, and that they won a trophey
fair play to the manager he done a v.good job so far when many doubted him but be realistic albion fans n play season month by month
i know he got you in playoffs when he took over you was around midtable but with the squad n time he had last year he should of done better and you lot know that
but i wont take nothing away from him this year he doing a top job
Comments (in the loosest of terms)
16 & 24
remind me of being at infant school, but a little less mature.
And Pete 25,
maybe we wouldn`t gloat, if you and yours didn`t keep giving us the amunition.
Firstly well done TM, you deserved it!
Is that not just the worst picture of TM ever though, he looks like those white masks out of saw the film!
14 laughing at dingles, if we’re in staffs then your in brum silly man!
5 HB, how sinical are you!?!? Just because the e&s support the better team in the black country don’t get all bitter and twisted about it.
26 HB - that made me laugh - fair play!
31- We can’t win with you lot!! If we weren’t happy you’d call us cynical and accuse of whinging.
We don’t think we’ve won a trophy, we’re just happy to feel proud of our club for the 1st time in a while (since Megson methinks or Great Escape), and for playing such wonderful football in the process. Long may it continue, well done Tony Mowbray!!
You’ll have to trust us when we say it feels good to play wonderful football!!
33- I think 14’s referring to the fact Wolvo was once classed as Staffordshire, up until about the 70’s I think.
33.Nathan
Near enough to be Staffs.
and you know it……that’s why it winds you lot up……
We8
I know what you mean when you say we are acting as if we are already promoted.
Myself, i like to have a more cautious approach, although i am quietly confident.
However, the Albion fans that are bigging up the promotion talk,
are basing it on what they have seen,
unlike some of the Wulfs who were bigging up promotion BEFORE a ball
was kicked,
and correct me if i`m wrong,
you were one of them.
NathanWolves
despite our words last week,
i knew you were a good bloke really.
I suppose we’re gonna have to get used to these headlines!! Ha!
It doesnt take much to get you lot excited does it!
Win a trophy fellas, your definitely due one.
Anyway credit where credits due, the elephant man was uglier than TM.
L A Ds (36)
If you want to be picky…..your ground is in Handsworth. Check it out.
Nothing to be proud of is it ??
39.
B71 4LF
Check it out yourself.
If you have the intelligence that is…
Yeah i apologised for the rant Wbaforever
this award just makes a mockery of manager of the month. sandwell have had the easiest fixtures of all the contenders. there is no muscle or backbone in that squad and by xmas you will have fallen to mid table whilst magic mick will show sandwell what a real manager can do
wbaforever 37 - i don’t think the majority of fans are acting like we are promoted - we are just celebrating some good performances and TM winning the award.
I for one will not dampen my enthusiasm cos a few dingles don’t like it. I am realistic about where we are - but loving the journey.. so join in lads, get on board and boing us forward !!
as for which club is where, who has the biggest crowds etc… WHO CARES.
We are highest club above sea level but you don’t hear us going on about it !!!
well done tony and the team, the first on many and thanks for bringing back the proper way to play football.
COME ON YOU BAGGIES
congratulations mogga see you at southampton saturday !
Well done, but i’m sorry, Gary Johnson should of won this, he’s spent 2 million +- and they are going great, whereas you spent 11 million+. Well done anyway.
Well done Tony and thanks for the plaudits from most of the Wolves fans that have posted.
Nathan, Wolves. Your right, the Express and Star always supports the Wolves over the Baggies but Wolves at the moment cannot be called the better taeam.
38. Sandwell Massive!! Bet that you
are no oil painting either!!
Good morning Happy-baggie
The point i was trying to make,
perhaps not very eloquently,
there are SOME baggies fans using the P word, and with a good degree of conviction BECAUSE of what we have witnessed, and therefore has some credence,
unlike some Wolves fans, using the not just the P word, but talking of being champions by xmas BEFORE a ball was kicked.
Our percieved promotion credentials,
are being based on the fact of performance, to date
Theirs Were based on aspirations
in JUNE!
And dampen you`re enthusiasm?
everone who reads these threads, knows that, that aint gonna happen.
Wbaforever - there will always be some who get carried away (inc me from time to time) - its just the joy of watching a good team play GREAT football…
The more we play teams off the park, or fight toe to toe with the scrappers will just increase our confidence.
Its hard to keep ya light under a bushel (?) when SKY TV shows the world how good we are.. but I agree that many wolves fans were “giving it large” pre-season - I don’t mind cos thats the only time they ever get to do it.
Good results / bad results… I just have a lot of faith in the albion this season… but its always with fingers crossed.
p.s - you are ALWAYS eloquent !!
p.s - good marning.
p.p.s - do you think i have sewn enough seeds of doubt on the wolves pages now or should i continue ??
