The country is going rugby crazy is it??
not that I have seen. where are the flags? none down my street..
most people couldn’t give a toss about what a bunch of public schoolboys get upto in a sport that only a handful of countries take seriously.
Stop pretending the country is gripped when it clearly is not…
Jack (1)
You lucky bugger.
working class wolf (7)
We are talking about ENGLAND here. It does not matter what the game is ie Rugby, conkers or tiddlywinks this is an ENGLAND team and it deserves our support.
Au contraire Nottingham Wolf
Elitist Sports do not ‘deserve’ the support of the population until they stop being elitist. The vast majority of the team are public schoolboys and are not representative of the England most people live in…
And the headline is misleading - the country is NOT going rugby crazy.
I’m not really that into Egg chasing, but C’MON ENGLAND!
Working class wolf. You obviously have an enormous chip on your shoulder.
why sandy?
have I said something that is factually incorrect?
w c w.
Why call rugby an elitist sport?
I’m a footie fan but the Premier prima donas are the ones who think they are the elite not the rugby guys.
w c w
Obviously you are right
From now I will not support these elitist sports such as
Rugby
Cricket
Rowing
All big in public schools and the elite universities (strangely enough sports we have success in every now and then rather than the never ending failure of England football in the last 30 years. Funnily enough these are all sports where behaviour is far better - argue with a rugby ref or cricket umpire even a little and you are in big trouble
or celebrate great achievements by people such as Ellen MacArthur (yachting is obviously an elitist sport with the amount of money it takes to take part)
Get off your low horse muppet - I will be cheering on the England football team on Wednesday the England Rugby team on saturday and the England cricket team in Sri Lanka
What school did I go to - Regis school in Tettenhall where we played all of these elite sports
I don’t disagree with your comment re Premiership prima donnas at all n w. far from it in fact.
rugby union had a big chance to try and attract ‘poorer’ people to the sport 4 years ago - yet it predominantly remains a game for rich kids from posh schools. check the biogs of the players.
that is why most people in the country don’t really care about it - whereas the Welsh and Irish are passionate because it is seen as a sport for most of the people in those countries.
at the local football club I was at last weekend - rugby was mentioned a grand total of zero times. Hardly ‘going crazy’….
WORKING CLASS WOLF..YOUR A TYPICAL DINGLE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT ANYBODY OR ANYTHING…HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME…GLAD I DONT HAVE TO SEAT NEXT TO YOU AT THE CUSTARD BOWL,THATS IF YOU GO..CLUB OR COUNTRY DONT NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU.STAY AT HOME AND DO SOME KNITTING….COME ON ENGLAND
Rich
no problem. you enjoy tugging your forelock….
how many players from Regis school are playing on Saturday?
what rivetting constructive debate from Worcester Baggie!! Thanks for contributing….
maybe if sport was prioritised more in ‘normal’ schools then England would be doing better at football too…..
I personally don’t give a damn what school these players went to, they are playing for their country and i will be flying the ENGLAND flag with pride. They are ENGLISH END OF regardless of their background. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!
i think that it is pathetic that people cannot support any England team, regardless of what sport, especially when it may be the second time that they take home the World Cup.
AND to the working class wolf, you sound like a stereotypical football fan. Tell me do you wear a sovereign and a Burberry cap ????
working class wolf post 15 funny enough I was at my local rugby club on saturday and guess what football was not mentioned there!!!. These premiership/championship footballers could learn a lot from rugby players. In your number 9 post you mention that rugby does not represent the England that most people live in. So where you live, if someone even looks at you in a threatening manner do you role around feining injury such as the “working class state school” footballers unlike the posh public school rugby players that have 18st men run over their heads and just get up dust themselves off and carry on. Us “poor people” could learn a lesson or two…. COME ON ENGLAND EVERYONE APART FROM WORKING CLASS WOLF ARE BACKING YOU!!!!!
Football started out as a sport played by public schoolboys. Who cares? We should be proud of this England team and the way they’ve picked themselves up from nowhere. Being an Englishman in Paris I’m loving it…
now we are getting to the crux of the matter.
is that what a stereotypical football fan looks like Rugby?!?! is that how you sneer at football supporters??
in fairness to w c w it is nothing at all like when the football team are playing in a world cup i n terms of national interest…….
I see puerile nonsensical insults are the flavour of the day.
Just been out to lunch in central london - (strange how i get a job here with a soveriegn and burberry cap)
England flags spotted - none.
Conversations in the office at work about it - none.
England rugby shirts spotted - none.
The country really is going rugby crazy….. :(:(
how can rugby be just for posh and rich people when the game has only been proffessional in the last ten fifteen years!a plus as the England team will only pick up 60 grand for holding on to the world cup its hardly mega bucks. footballers pick up double that for one week and dont in the slightest put their bodies on the line. So you tell me who are the rich really. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!! At least the rugby can make us proud to be English again!
Only 1 ‘f’ in ‘professional’ rugby fan. you can’t even spell as well as stereotypical football fans….
W T F
Can we not just cheer our country one, regardless of class divide. I am working class from a working class area(langley) We played rugby at school. But who cares everyone of them is english and so get my full support. And working class wolf. Just for you i am putting my flag out.
Come on England !!!!
oh well who cares! im on top of the world at the moment, ive just witnessed an amazzzzzing comebackkk from a team that plays with english pride through and through. win, lose or draw sat night at least we have defended something with dignity! to all patriotic england supporters enjoy sat night. I will be singing swing low with tears rolling down my face. So sorry about the spelling errrrors!
mate you are a muppet big time
no no players from Regis playing on Saturday
Denise Lewis (Athletics Gold medalist)went there
Vikram Solani (that is cricket) went there too
but sorry no working class heroes for you there
I spent many a year happily standing on the terraces on football grounds and thought that the soul and atmosphere went out of football when I was forced to sit down
Now I like going to a sport where I can choose to sit or stand, can have a beer while I watch the game and have a laugh and banter with opposition fans - still go to football too every now and then and the difference is massive
Rugby is not as big a sport as Football - nothing is but there are many people that have never been to a Rugby ground, who understand few if any of the rules, who will be cold hard ENGLAND fans on Saturday
Maybe it is time that people like you and the snobs at the other end of the scale forgot the class divide - times have changed whether you like it or not it is not 1975 any more
ha ha. good for you Baggie.. :):)
Although i’m from a working class background myself, it’s fair to say there has been a lot of interest in the rugby in my office and all the footy fans have been following it. Also, it is interwesting to note that more TV viewers tuned in to the semi final of the rugby the other night than the FA Cup Final in May. Any way, Come on England. All the best to the team on Saturday.
Well said rich
and Rich…
why spoil an otherwise perfectly reasonable post with insults??
come on you lads you can sort them out with our bulldog spirit you can win and make yourselves OUR top class HEROES goodluck.
well what can i say ! i was there when we did france !!! and will be there again on saturday !! i have the pic in the E & S to prove it too in tuesdays edition on the back page we r the ones with the chicken !!! Walsall Crew !!!!
Come on ENGLAND you can do it….
Stay with the spirit
Well !!
First time I’ve read these posts and I have to say, the finest example of snobbery I have ever seen - from working class wolf.
I for one have been following England in the football, rugby and cricket, in fact if conkers were televised , I’d follow them in that too!
Not because I’m upper class, middle class or working class, but because I’m English.
C’MON ENGLAND do it for the nation - even those that don’t appreciate it.
in fairness - I think wcw was just pointing out that the defintion of ‘the country is going rugby crazy’ maybe slightly OTT.
I hope the E&S is similarly ebullient when Ricky Hatton fights Floyd Mayweather in December and says “The Country is going Boxing Crazy” and runs a message board.
My bet is that it won’t….
Come On England!!!!
hoorah, huzzah and toodle pip to our brave public school boys on Saturday night!
Lets give those damned foreigners six of the best and return to Blighty with the trophy!
I for one with be drinking the house dry of Gin and Tonic on this momentous occasion occasion.
Tally Ho to England!!
I could not care less if i was the only person watching on saturday as i am proud to be supporting the English rugby team in their defence of the webb ellis trophy. I am working class, female, follow the rule and not just the legs and at my place of work the final has been discussed none stop. if everyone put as much effort into cheering England on as they do critising them then they might do better in more sports. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!
Come on Lads I know you can do it, again!!!!
So proud of the team spirit you guys have and lets show the world ENGLAND are the BEST!
JONNY GO OUT THERE AND DO WHAT U DO BEST X
GOOD LUCK BOYS NOT THAT YOU NEED IT
YOU ARE TO GOOD FOR THEM BRING IT
ON
Good-evening all!
If England set their mind to it,they stand a fair chance! Those
South Africans are,nt in the finals
for nothing!
