Frustration. That seems to be what every Wolves fan is feeling at the moment, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
Against Plymouth at the weekend we played some our best football so far this season, totally dominating the first half and yet we couldn’t quite edge it.
A hatful of chances and a virtuoso goalkeeping performance from McCormick meant only a point was taken away from Home Park.
The flowing football we saw against the woeful Canaries was on show again, but what use is it without the goals?
The Wolves defense must be happy that the spotlight has shifted from them in the last couple of weeks to our strikeforce.
Stephen Elliott must feel a bit unloved. At Sunderland he scored 15 in 29 games in his first season and also banged them in for the Irish U-21s.
I think everyone was a bit surprised when he arrived at Molinuex and even more so now he is starting in place of Freddy.
He has however popped up with a couple of goals and I think deserves his starting place.
It seems to have been debated to death, but I still think Keogh would be best suited in a role playing behind a front two of Freddy and Elliott.
If Ward is doubtful for Leicester, it might be the ideal opportunity to start Keogh in the Thierry Henry role where he cuts in from the left, and we keep the same shape in midfield.
Then you just hope and pray that we beat a Leicester team that can run hot and cold.
The Foxes have notched up impressive home wins against Watford and away at Villa, and like us have had a real stuttering start.
Whatever team MM decides to field, I am fully supportive of a manager who has moved this club on massively.
Just because the team hasn’t quite gelled yet, I don’t think calling another managerial casualty this early on in the season is the answer, do you?
Wolves fans, what do you think? Have your say below.

Agreed.
I think the left wing is the natural place for Keogh with Elliot and Eastwood up front.
Mick must stay.
Difficult to argue any of your points, my good man. But not voicing our disbelief at some of the team selections thus far, just beacuse we hit above our weight LAST season is incredibly dangerous.
Except for the Jody recall, NONE of the problems at the back have been addressed, Freddy who has saved our beef on a couple of occcasions alrrady so far, and proved he can in fact score, has been benched, and arguably our most potent striker, JB, not featured beacuse he dared challenge KING MICK’s Authoritaaaay.
No, Im afraid Micks term 2 report thus far is not very complimentary, and until he shows some kind of initiative/cunning OR his current team selections starts paying off, it will remain as such.
Here’s hoping I eat my words. And very soon.
Lee
When is Matt Jarvis back, he is meant, I quote to have “pace to burn” on the left.
Got to keep Mick, can’t go around getting rid of our manager after an average start. Keogh behind the front 2 feeding Eastwood and Elliot.
of course it would be stupid to sack mm now but with his reluctance to sign quick central defenders & the crazy freddie decision he will have no excuses if we don’t go up & i think morgan will replace him, whatever we think.also matt murray made both him & the team look better than they were last season.
…and have we forgotten Eastwoods fantastic showing for Wales?
Come on Mick, fess up, whats really going on?
Why do we think Keogh is best wide left other than wishful thinking.
Id keep as is and switch both the strikers during the match if its not happening.
I SEE OUR RESERVES WON 6-1 LAST NIGHT,FRIGHTENING AINT IT BE AFRAID BE VERY AFRAID :-)BOING BOING
With me it is frustration, Freddie looks a little like JB of what i have seen of him this season, in the reserves last week he was dreadful and that is his platform to perform, although goals count effort is also a key here lads and he is lacking the passion. so it has to be get jarvis back and leave the rest as it is.
MM’s done a good job to settle Hoddle’s complete mess. Just a couple of quality centre backs will boost the performance and the luck won’t be always the worst possible.
Keogh + Eastwood + Elliott at the same time soundz great
hail mm for the effort he is putting in. but cant he see we need defenders. a couple of strong defenders and our team will perfect. we have a lot of chances in front of goal but not a defenent goal scored while fe is on the bench.

I cannot believe these so called Wolves fans calling for Mick’s head.
You sure have short memories. We have played 8 league games for gods sake.
What really is upsetting these guys is that the baggies are 2nd in the table.
If they were bottom and we were 12th most of these fickle fans would not even be posting on here.
There is no one better out there than MM.
Lay off and give the man time.
All this criticism and divisiveness does nothing for the club and is the story of the last 15 years. The whinging that has broken out in PREVIOUS seasons has played a big part in underachievement and if it doesn’t stop will bury this team along with the others. How many times have we seen players leave and thrive…..Venus, Jermaine Wright, Ingimarrson ? Is it a coincidence or maybe the constant booing and carping make players lose faith with the fans? And I can’t believe that the fans can’t show the same patience with MM they found last season and look what it brought. If the whingers arn’t careful it’s just ammunition for Tesco’s and they seem to be enjoying this don’t they…? Support the team…stand solid and stick together….support Mick McCarthy…it’s the only way to overcome this..
thing`s aren`t as bad as some people are saying… we got off to a bad start and now were playing with quality and pace!!! all we need is inform strikers and we`ll be flying!! rome wasn`t built in a day!! COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!
The way things are going super mick will be out by xmas.
our return so far is poor to say the least - its not good enough.
the pressure is on big time over the next 3 games.
they have to start scoring & winning games or he will be out.
We cannot sack MM.Just think back to the mess we were in after Hoddle left which I happen to think was far worse than we realise. The club has not invested in quality players for sometime hence the reason we are still in the Championship. We must give him time.
7: and your point is ?? what are you on ? Are these the same reserves that got beat by cardiff last week ?? Afraid of what? Makes me wonder what kind of people have the mentality to post such stupid things. This post is about Wolves FC frustration at the meagre start we have had to our season. NOTHING at all to do with the baggies. Mind you, a mix of warsaw & sandwell - what can we expect !!
Sacking MM is out of the question for me. There are many reasons why he shouldnt go, but the main one for me is I cannot see any one better for the job.
As for eastwood debate - hes got to play. questions about his workrate mean nothing if he consistently puts the ball in the back of the net, which he does and will do whenever he plays.
I don’t know why we haven’t tried Elliot on the left with Eastwood and Keogh up front- everyone’s happy! Elliot played there a number of times for the Black Cats. This should solve some problems as Ward is obviously out of position and carrying an injury. I applaud Ward’s commitment and he has improved on the left, but surely he should be rested if he’s in so much pain?
I really can’t wait to see Jarvis fit. What I’ve seen of the lad looks very good. He is FAST. Steps in on his right and scores wonder goals. His pace gets him on the end of tap-ins too. Very like Kightly in many respects. If he can cross with his left foot he should be great! I believe he could make all the difference to the team.
as good as the idea of playing keogh behined elliot and freddy is there will be a big lack of defensive cover in the midfield and with our defence thats not good.
There is one person who is better than MM, this man got EVERY team that he managed, promoted AND they stayed promoted,Newcastle Fulham Man City Yes he is available, has links with Liverpool as has our owner.KEVIN KEEGAN get him now Morgan before this season is a waste of time!!!
How do you get to a believe that MM has moved the club on massively?
He did well last season and bought wisely, or at least we believed then that he had. Now in hindsight, I for one am not so sure he didn’t just get lucky. Now that we have seen his purchases this season, with a bigger budget, he looks far from impressive! I do not understand why he bought Eastwood, who is so similar to Bothroyd both in style and temperament. In fact this season he has undone most of his own good work with the younger players from last season. They were thought to be inexperienced but they played and gained that. They should still be playing this season. Little, Jones etc… I know there have been injury problems but now they have to force their way back in passed very average older players. I have no problem with older players but why not some that still have something to offer. Perhaps Fowler and Hasslebank. They would put it in the net which is all we needed to do to improve on last season! MM is not rubbish he is average and his teams will always be average. I think that is where the ambition of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC lies!
And another thing why does everyone think that Eastwood is going to score lots of goals? Has he done that before somewhere?
I will sit back and wait for the predictable “-od off, you must be an albion fan” response! Perhaps someone will send me a pair of those rose tinted specs, and I could join you all in ‘lets pretend we’re a big club la la land’.
Can’t understand why Tesco followers feel they have to infiltrate Wolves postings do they think anyone is remotely interested in their moronic ramblings or probably because 99% of contributions to their own site would be written in crayon and posted in
mick needs time. remember last season it wasnt til after january when he signed keogh, kightley and ward that we really started to push, so i think that might happen again this season if he brings in some quality defenders. i do think mick might be gone by the start of next season though. i got a feeling that paul jewel might be waiting in the wings.
Regards comment 21…
Eastwood scored 15 last season for a team that went down. He played some of that season with an injury to his back. The lad has a natural talent for scoring goals that isn’t matched by anyone else at the club and few in the division. His performances this year have blown hot and cold, but that’s not uncommon for a player at a new club. He has still shown us he can score at club and international level.
As for ambition, what do you really expect? A short while ago we were looking down the barrel of a gun. All of our “star” players had gone and our manager had walked out.
Now we have a new owner and the beginnings of a good team. It isn’t there yet but we are still in the Championship when we were favourites to go down. We have shown a massive improvement over the last few games and I’m sure that improvement will continue.
I may not agree with McCarthy’s first choice strike partnership but I am not calling for his head!
I like the fact we aren’t bringing in ageing stars in search of their last payday. I like the fact we have a manager who wants to build a team from “young and hungry” players even if it takes a while and has a few hiccups (and maybe gross errors) along the way.
It’s better than chequebook football.
I actually like the fact we have a manager who is brave enough to keep his “stars” on the bench when he feels it is right, even if I don’t agree with him.
We are mid table at the moment and the wheels haven’t exactly come off. Sunderland were second from bottom at Christmas and went on to win the league. If we fail to make it to the playoffs then maybe Mick should fall on his sword, after all, I do seem to recall him setting this as a target. Until this becomes mathematically impossible we should support the team and the manager, even if we don’t like everything he does. We owe him that for last season. Question his decisions by all means (I do!) but stop calling for his head until he’s actually done something wrong!
I believe the word “frustration” keeps popping up at the custard cream bowl? If only creating chances put points on the board, as 22 chances in one game and only one goal gives a conversion rate of only 0.05%. Quality. Just imagine what King Kev would do if he had 22 chances. Hey, I guess the Albion could always lend you a striker as we have plenty of them; you can even have Hartson, or even our reserve team! I
Pah! its the same debate, just different managers. lets agree to disagree, cos the proof is in the pudding, and until the results improve, I will stand by my decision that we are not making the most of our current squad.
I did’nt mean to start a debate on Super Mick getting the boot.
I rate the guy but if the results don’t go his way and show a big improvement it will be the same old story,mr morgan wants prem football, we can’t wait until january for improvement it has to be now starting with tonight and followed up again on saturday.
come on mick, give freddy his chance
wetwolf, great post, couldn’t have put it better.
We need to score more goals to win!
No point in pretty football but not taking 3 points!
Wolves dominated and outplayed Plymouth for large parts of the game on Saturday, and the home side were very lucky to come away with a draw.
All Wolves can do is keep dominating and outplaying teams and they’ll win. It really is that simple. However, if the fans fail to get behind the side then there form s liable to stutter and we’ll fall even further back.
Laughing out loud…
In Response to comment 20.Portugal Wolves 4 ever
Kevin Keegan! He bottles any job when the pressure gets is the slightest bit more than average.
Stick with Mick!
what’s happening we started off, up the top, now we are on free fall to the bottom, wolves player’s have lost the plot, don’t they realise that we need this year, when the baggies fair play to tony mowbray the player’s he brought in are contender’s for automatic promotion, why’s this they realised they needed to get quality player’s with proven, premiership capabilities & proven goalscorers, wolves policy of buying cheap, unproven player’s able to handle the championship, let alone the premiership. we need strenghening in all areas except with our keeper’s,michael kightly, andy keogh, michael gray, waynne hennesey & seyi olofanjanna have proven to be the back bone & the best buy’s wolves have brought in. the result this saturday will sadly be 2-1 to coventry.wolves striker’s prove myself & wolves fan’s wrong if you can find the net,if you can’t we’ll send you an A-Z MAP TO FIND IT,WITH DETAIL’S FROM OTHER TEAM’S HOW TO GET THE BALL INTO THE NET!!!!. FROM A SUPPORTER OF WOLVES SINCE THE AGE OF 8, BY THE WAY I’M 41 NOW. AN UN HAPPY WOLVES SUPPORTER, MR MORGAN DON’T GET RID OF MICK M AS BY THE WAY WOLVES HAVE DOMINATED THE TEAMS WE’VE PLAYED SO FAR,IT’S THE PLAYER’S WHO NEED TO TREMBLE WHEN JANUARY APPROACHES NOT MICK !!!.
Relegation looms… then i can get back in with my 5a bid!!
BULLDOZERS AT THE READY..
MM never has or ever will be a top manager.Run all you can and do as you are told and there’s a place in the team–Ireland 2002 say no more!Who bought FE? MM cannot motivate “awkward” characters, if he stays get used of the championship for a good while yet.
whay has he dropped darren ward?? I know why, he was asked by the boss what he thought about Breen and Darren told him the truth…as breen is one of His “boys” he didn’t like the truth and has dropped darren even though the general opinion is that darren has done well….dropping him for craddock….do me a favour….ward is the best defender at the club….HE IS NOT INJURED….THAT IS WHY HE I NOT PLAYING!!!!! GET A MANAGER IN THAT KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING QUICKLY…..
If Eastwood has failed to shed the extra weight he was carrying when he came and if refusing to improve his workrate for the team he’s showing a lack of respect for both players AND fans…Mick’s right to take him to task.
But the pressure being put on him by the so-called faithful boo boys is undermining both the other players in the team who are looking to increase their confidence. What would you do if Freddie broke a leg or something..? You’d HAVE to support the team then…..
