The launch date for the first Chinese MGs made at Longbridge has been put back to next year following a series of production problems.
Nanjing Automobile originally wanted its first batch of MG TF sports cars to be in showrooms this autumn.
But the firm now says cars will not be available until February next year, with first deliveries expected to customers in March. The brand is launching with a limited edition run of 500 TFs. Called the LE 500 each car will be highly specified and powered by a 16v 1.8 litre petrol engine.
A batch of around 20 pre-production cars is currently undergoing tests around Europe prior to the launch.
Nanjing bosses have had to reduce the level of Chinese parts from 80 per cent to 65 per cent following logistical problems which have included windscreens breaking while en route to the UK from China.

Why is there never any mention of the new spares position in the UK press. There are MG & MGTF owners who need new parts. I believed that the parts provion would improve once China started production and insurance premiums would reduce as they would be cheaper to repair.
Maybe the Chinese parts aren’t up to scratch? We ought to have more pride in our technical / professional expertise in this country, which is at a much higher level than much of the rest of the world. For all their cheapness and sheer numbers, Chinese goods are usually of inferior quality.
