Eves eyeing Willenhall upturn

Willenhall Town FCWillenhall boss Mel Eves hopes the magic of the FA Cup rubs off on his team when they bid to end their away hoodoo at Kidsgrove Athletic tomorrow.

The Lockmen have lost every game they’ve played on the road so far this season. And after making the most of their cup reprieve by beating Barnt Green Spartak in Tuesday’s replay to set up tomorrow’s delayed first qualifying round tie, Eves has challenged his side to now put their away form right.

“We haven’t got a result away from home so far,” said Eves.

“We’ve lost every game. We’re hoping to turn the corner tomorrow and get a win.

“Hopefully the FA Cup can inspire the lads to do that.”

Kidsgrove play at the equivalent level to Willenhall in the Unibond League and Eves knows they will be no pushovers.

“They are similar to us in that they’re decent at home but not so good away,” he said.

“They will be slight favourites because of the fact they have home advantage, but anything could happen on the day.

“We certainly go into the game with confidence and there’s no pressure on the lads.”

Eves has a doubt over central defender Ross Brown who suffered an ankle injury in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Spartak.
