Wolves star Freddy Eastwood has been arrested by police after a punch-up, it was revealed today.
The £1.5 summer signing was involved in a fracas which is believed to have happened recently in the Basildon area of Essex.
He stepped in to protect his brother-in-law after violence flared and he was punched.
The 12-stone Welsh international then “defended” himself and was arrested.
He has since been let off with a caution.
The bust-up has prompted the club to issue a blanket warning to all Wolves players about their behaviour off the field, but seems unlikely to lead to disciplinary action against Eastwood by Wolves.
The club’s chief executive Jez Moxey told the Express & Star: “We have spoken to Freddy who tells us that he stepped in to break up an incident involving his brother-in-law, was punched and defended himself.
“The police confirmed he was subsequently arrested, questioned, cautioned, released without charge, and no that further action will be taken.
“If the incident had been serious the police would, I’m sure, have prosecuted him.
“As far as we are concerned, that is the end of the matter.
“We have, however, reminded all our players to be mindful of being drawn into incidents such as this.”
Eastwood’s agent Neil Fewings refused to comment further on the matter.
News of the brawl comes just days after Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed that Eastwood was not among his first choice pair of strikers.
It appeared to be a shock demotion for the club’s 23-year-old top scorer, who had an explosive start to his first season at Wolves.
The 5ft 11ins powerhouse started at West Ham before joining non-league side Grays and Southend before joining Wolves.
Eastwood had a day off from training today after playing for the reserves in last night’s 3-1 defeat by Coventry. He did not score.
