Wolves owner Steve Morgan has hit back at critics who have branded his actions on a reality TV show as “idiotic”.
Morgan is appearing in the four-part series Millionaire’s Mission, where eight millionaires swap their luxury lifestyles to help a poverty-stricken Ugandan village.
But while his team-mates were seen bonding in last week’s debut programme, Morgan broke ranks immediately to forge ahead with his idea to supply the villagers with running water.
In tonight’s show he will be seen carrying on with his efforts, which have come under fire from internet bloggers.
The Express & Star can also today reveal how next week he will make a dramatic early exit from the show before the project is finished.
In an email fired off in response to criticism on a website, Morgan insists he made the right decisions.
He says he immediately struck a deal with the Ugandan government to create water supplies for more than 3,000 people after leaving the programme.
He wrote: “Having spent three weeks living with the villagers of Karorwa and Nyakasiru, I know how important water is.
“The very reason I took part in the programme was to visit the “real” Africa and do something to help.
“I am funding the construction of two water systems which I designed whilst in Uganda. Two reservoirs are currently under construction, a solar-powered pumping scheme will be installed early in November and there are 13.5 kilometres of water main being installed.
“All together, 3,500 villagers and five schools will have water within a short walking distance of their homes by Christmas. This work is separate from the projects on the programme.”
Morgan, who is worth £450 million of the contestants’ shared £600 million wealth, stars alongside Wigan pub tycoon Tony Callaghan and internet entrepeneur Seb Bishhop.
Millionaire’s Mission is on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.

Good on you Steve, I watched the first programme and was impressed with your down to earth approach to the real problems facing those poor Ugandan villagers. The other millionaires are living in cloud cuckoo land with their ‘Themed Hotel’ project. How many people would want to go on holiday there anyway? perhaps a few whilst the viewing public remember the programme, but in the long term who knows!Give them the water Steve’s project promises and make a real difference to their lives now.
I think the entire program was idiotic and is doing absolutely nothing to address real problems regarding poverty in Uganda. The Morgan and his millionaires treated the Ugandans like imbeciles and approached their village as if it operated in isolation, without numerous complex issues that impact their development or its lackthereof. The age-old colonialist mentality that fed into their every action is appaling.
What are you doing Kampalan to address the Issues of Uganda?
Kanpalen …. i agree with funkster76 what are you doing to help the process.. shut up will you
Kampalan, what are you thinking of! do you expect a group of private individuals solve the problems of Uganda on their own? If nothing else the programme brought the every day living problems of admittedly just a few Ugandans to the viewing publics notice! Remember Live Aid and what that did! Any publicity to the plight of the third world can only bring good, no matter how small.
yes kampalan ask the ones that run the place were the money is going you are all here telling us we are to blame for all the world pop over to a third world place called sandwell town still eating pigs feet there
Seems to me Steves a bloke who gets things done no messing.I can see him doing a great job for the WOLVES.
Yeah. he got the job done and then got out. Not sat round with a bunch of opportunist ego-trippers waffling on about how “amaaazing” this place is.
kampalan is obviously an albion fan who’s jealous of our chairman. can’t see jeremy peace helping anyone (except himself).
good on you steve, makes a change from people like simon jordan who is only interested in doing things that raise his profile rather than the cause itself.
It’s correct that Steve will only make a difference to a few thousand people, but if Governments around the World took his lead then they could make a difference to Millions. Seems like a down to earth bloke to me, good on yer Steve.
