Villa blog: Play Gabby upfront

villacrest.jpgSo, another routine 2-0 home victory, Villa fans could get used to this, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.

Everton were disappointing, and clearly missed the injured Arteta, but in truth they never really troubled us and we didn’t need to be at our best to win the game.

Once again it was the awesome Martin Laursen who stood out.

He leads by example with his no-nonsense style of defending, and with Mellberg also looking back to his best, we just don’t look like conceding.

Carson, Bouma and Knight all look composed and assured, this really might be our best defence for some time.

Gareth Barry was also outstanding, running the game in midfield.

On this form he will be an England regular for years to come. John Carew has taken some stick recently but he led the line superbly in the first half and took his goal well, it was a shame that again he was unable to finish the match through injury.

On the plus side it gave Gabby Agbonlahor a chance to shine in his best position, up front, and he took his chance with a fine goal.

He definitely needs to start up front from now on, it’s clear that he is wasted on the wing.

The spirit in the camp is fantastic to see.

We have a group of players who all fight for each other and work hard as a team.

Credit to Martin O’Neill, the transformation of our great club since he took over is remarkable, he has put together a squad of young players with great potential and we’re starting to see flashes of just how good we can be in the season’s to come.

Hold onto your seats.

I do agree that Gabbys best for us when he’s up front and latching on to stuff. My only worry is that Luke and Gabby together would be too similar and not hold the ball up.

Does Luke deserve to be dropped for Marlon?

    Up the Villa!
