Albion’s Carling Cup hopes were ended with a four goal first half blitz from Cardiff.
Robbie Fowler opened the scoring after four minutes before Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink doubled the Bluebirds’ advantage.
Fowler grabbed another from the spot and Trevor Sinclair made it four on the half-hour.
Ishmael Miller tried to bring Albion back into the match with a double strike, the second a penalty.
But the devastating opening from former Wolves boss Dave Jones’s side left the Baggies with too much to do.
Albion fans have your say on the result below the story.

Shame!!!!
Come on Happy Tesco let’s have your words of wisdom!!!!!
It’s all gone quiet over there HaHaHaHaHa
Your Gaffer warned you about there was plenty of life in Fowler and Jimmy Floyd, pity you did’nt listen to him HA HA HA HA
b eat by jonsies welsh boys ha ha
Oh dear.. not the end of the world but 1st half was poor. TM though will know more about fringe players and whilst I don’t criticise I don’t think we’ll see much of taninio or pele! Also thought the support was great tonight, pity all midlands fans are not like Albions! Yes come on dingles have your say but the facts are we got behind the boys all night and with not a lot too cheer! You lot boo them off half tome at 0-0!! FACT.
Up the Albion..
Shocking scoreline!
just a good job it wasnt a league game i say.
This proves our squad hasnt got the same quality as the 1st 11 have.
very poor team selection indeed.
The baggies and tomow learnt a few things tonight.Towmow in my humble opinion fielded a different starting eleven to see what kind of depth is available. Also to give the fringe players a shot to impress.the jury is still out on that one.No cause for alarm the gaffer will steer us to where we need to be at the end of the season
Nice one dave bet that felt good after what there idiot fans use to sing at you cause you managed us.
The statisticians will have a field day here..Possession WBA 55,
Cardiff 45 (?). Shots on target:
Cardiff 5, WBA, lost count but lots.
Result: Complete embarrassment.
Lesson to be learned: Strikers, don’t call yourselves that until you can shoot like two old men called Fowler and Hasselbaink. Defenders, you have to stick closer to these two than their sweaty shirts.
On the plus side, the P.A. system was a gentle background to the chat with supporters. The DJ can be allowed to live (for the time being). Personally I wasn’t too disappointed as we saw our ‘almost second team’ exposed as just that. We should also realise that ToMo would normally introduce just one or two at a time, not seven all at once. Several could play in the first team as individual inclusions.
The Tesco lot with a no frills performance
just a mad half hour, but there was 7 changes to the team that finished at scunny, not to worry look out QPR on sunday,:-)boingboing
as strange as it might sound, this was more informative for Mowbray than saturdays performance.
quite clearly a couple members of the “squad” aren,t up to the job and surely only have up to january in the reserves to prove their worth.
lets not go overboard as regards team selection and formation etc as..just like stoke at home last season…this was a freakish result.
i confidently predict normal service will be resumed this sunday and the only ones disappointed will be those fringe players who let themselves down.
Keep The Faith
SHOVEL BAGGIE
Taking a positive out of a poor result, at least we can now set the men from the boys in the squad, any of the fringe players that were banging on TM’s door have probably now answered their own questions.
On another point a poor decision from TM to play 5 in midfield especially when he puts Beattie on the wing, for me tactically lost yesterdays match.
I’m sure we will have a different outcome on Sunday when it’s back to business. Roll On Sunday.
Poor result, glad it was in the cup but perhaps a blessing in disguise so we can concentrate on the championship, perhaps wolves should of kept Dave Jones and they may of took some points off us since he left!
All in all a lesson learnt, bring on QPR on Sunday
BOING BOING
Keep the faith roll on sunday we will bounce back boing boing
ok sandwell fans here are my observations from last nights humiliation. in easy terms so that you can understand. the team changes werent made for squad rotation or ‘tinkering’, tony nobrain needed to see what some of his new players from his late shopping spree were actually like, and like you he will be very disappointed this morning. apart from the busy miller you can discard the rest which now makes your squad smaller than you thought. this 5 man midfield at home where everyone bombs forward is ineffective against a decent side. your 2 goals meant nothing as cardiff had already started running the showers at 8.15. and finally i see how they waited to you had paid in before making the changes. suckers
DAVE JONES COMES BACK TO HAUNT YOU.THERE 2 STRIKERS AS WELL HASSELBAINK AND FOWLER BOTH PASSED THERE SELL BY DATE …..
One 2 4 get hey boys.
oops ! Whens the draw for the next round ? I don’t suppose you will be watching it . “THERES ONLY ONE TONY MOWBRAY ” £12 million ? What a waste of money. Somebody stop me i am crying here ……………
Cant believe they only had 5 attempts and scored 4 of them!!
We had 15 attempts and 9 corners, come on lads, we need to start taking our chances!!!
Boing Boing!
Everything seems to be a bit quiet this morning.
Went to the game last night and what a game to pick!!!
First 30 minutes unbeleivably poor defending, give players like Jimmy & Fowler any time on the ball & they’ll score at this standard.
Lets hope we don’t get many injuries because if that is some of our fringe players, then were in trouble.
Mowbray says these fringe players have been “knocking on the door”, note to Mowbray, keep the door locked!!!
Maybe he now realises how bad some of these players really are, the likes of Pele, Chaplow, Beatie, Tininho never gonna be good enough.
If there is a positive from last night, Miller and Teixeira look class, GOT to play both every game & please, please, please no more Chaplow, he’s never had a good game for Albion & he’s had more than enough chances now.
ALBION RESERVES V CARDIFF FULL TEAM..
BRING ME SUNSHINE, WE GOT TO THE 3RD ROAD SILLY DINGLES
Its all gone quiet over there!!!!
Went to the match last night, and I’ve got a lot to say about all you fickle albion fans who booed. Beattie was on the wing (and he is not a winger), so how can you boo him and then clap when he goes off. That’s why Chaplow is low on confidence. We don’t want part time fans down there. We want the albion fans who were in the Smethwick, singing when we were 4-1 down. Don’t forget until last night night we hadn’t conceded a goal. Tony admitted after the game he made too many changes, but at least no points were lost. Come on Baggies fans look at the overall picture.
And to all the Wolves fans who are taking the p***, just remember what round you went out in, and to who!! Did Sheff Utd beat them 5-0. I rest my case!!!!!!!!!!!
When we (Wolves) lost to Morecombe, we rolled out all the excuses about concentrating on the league, and Mickey Mouse cup….
I did smile when I turned on the radio and heard that all the players Albion fans were saying were old and past-it, all got on the score sheet.
From what I hear, the scoreline flattered Cardiff and at the end of the day what does it really matter? I’d rather get dumped out the cup and win my next home game anyway!
So no doubt that us ‘Dingles’ will give you ‘Tesco’s’ some stick this morning, and now doubt next time we lose the roles will be reversed. I think you have some fringe players who really are not up to the task. Pele’s parents in particularly should be hung, drawn and quartered for naming their child after such a footballing god!
Keep smiling dingles, well wipe it off your face when you come to the hawthorns and leave you wiping those tears away at the custard bowl! how many do u reckon well knock past you this year?? my betting is on 7-8 over 2 games?
Boing Boing!
Look at all the dingle comments here. We was all at the game last night, take it you all stayed in no game to be played……Micky mouse cup to be honest, cardiff are looking to go further in the cup, How can they beat man utd etc etc. Roll on NOV when we paly you bad losers..
There were players yesterday who had an opportunity to impress. They have now given To Mo the answer to their own questions and pleas for a game.
I am glad that To Mo approached the game in this way, I would rather use this occassion to find out about the fringe players, than when it really matters in the league, and find them wanting. We know have a much better overview of the team as a whole.
Going out of the Carling Cup to Cardiff one round further than wolves did to lowly Morecombe would register with any sensible and rational person that - they did better than us so they have the bragging rites not us, but alas those mentally challenged Dingles have all piled in not realising how misguided and pathetic they are.
All in all it means that come January we still need a battling ball winning midfielder and a back up keeper…..but with plenty of time to scout out a gem.
Boing Boing!!
Nice to see we have different opinions. Nathan said how great the support was and how we should all be like them. Then Carl j Baggie says you are fickle booing Beattie on the wing. Just like i predicted, a few injuries to your first team and your finished.
if sandwell were by some fluke of nature to go up then they could expect drubbings like that every week.wolves are shaping up nicely and will be pushing for europe when we go up. your defence looked like umpa lumpas and couldnt reach the ball
Oh that hurt, Wolves fans have the right to comment on this dreadful result. It hurts us fans to lose so badly i just hope TM can sort it out for Sunday, I hate looking stupid when we are on Sky!!!!
Well that was different !!!!
Maybe too many changes were made - but thats what these games are for I guess and TM will have learned a few things about a few players (expect to see a few going out on “loan” soon).
A mad bad half hour but even at 4 we showed some battle and bottle..
As the dingles say - its just the cup - disappointed to lose but not the end of the world.
At least we have players coming back for sunday - imagine if that was our 1st team !!
TM has a home 11, an away 11 - a cup 11 was stretching it a bit too far.
Chins up lads - we are still 3rd and still rockin. BOING BOING !!
I was feeling a bit deflated till I read MMDP talking about wolves pushing for europe.. cheered me right up - thanks punk.
Yeeeeeeeees
Nice one Cardiff
All gone quiet at Tesco Towers
Up the Wolves
Last night was surreal!
at the time we were 2 down, and i said to my mate, we`ll get back in this because we look good going forward,
then the ref awarded them the pen,
a which point i actually burst out laughing.
The penalty decsion looked to be bordering on farce,
to be fair i thought ours was too.
Can anyone shed some light on those decisions, because i was at the back of the east stand, and perhaps not qualified to give an honest opinion.
Dave Jones (fair play to him) guessed correctly, that we would make wholesale changes, and sent out his first choice 11
Our back four last night, all looked comfortable WITH the ball, but their defending as a unit was non existent,
Fowler & Hasselbaink may have the combined age of a conker tree,
but afford them the acres of space we did and they WILL make you pay the consequence.
I refuse to berate any individual,
but i will say i was bemused by the role Beattie was asked to play,
and my bemusment was compounded further when Teixeria was playing virtualy alongside Miller, but still used Beattie wide right.
Very dissapointed to go out of the cup in that manner,
as opposed to last season when we lost to the Arsenal kids,
whoever was there that night witnessed GREATNESS in its embryonic stages.
Still very upbeat though, the every clouds got a silver lining, i`m sure will become evident in the coming weeks, because last night will have taught TM a LOT.
So you Wulfs, the cup that has no significance, the tin pot cup you`re glad you are out of,
has suddenly become rather immportant i assume?
Fair play!!
fill yer boots, try not to be too nasty.
And finaly to all,
sorry about the comment of war and peace proportions.
LAST NIGHTS RESULT HAS JUST WON US PROMOTION….WATCH US KICK ON NOW AND TEAR THIS LEAQUE APART..WE ARE LOOKING SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD FOR PROMOTION..EVEN LAST NIGHT OUR OUR SECOND STRING COULD OF SCORED A BAG FULL,THESE DINGLES WOULDNT OF BEEN TAKING THE PEE THEN WOULD THEY..JUST KEEP WATCHING OUR FIRST TEAM DINGLES AND DROOOOOOL EVERYTIME WE SLAP 3 POINTS ON THE BOARD…QPR SUNDAY EASY …WATCH AND DROOOOOL ..WERE GOING UP..MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT…BOING BOING
baggies
More like Cardiff reserves against the Tesco’s first team, and THEY STILL STUFFED TOU LOT 4.2
YEEEEEEEEEEEES 4.2
Well done Dave Jones
A freakish game that could have ended 6-6. Hats off to Cardiff for quality finishing though. It’s only a few days ago we stuffed 4 past Ipswich, when, in truth, the scoreline was flattery. The boot was on the other foot last night. Big up to the Smethwick end for singing all night and still getting behind the team.
I think we learned a lot didn’t we?
Nathan 10-3 (5) Don’t really want to get into a slanging match over this but I have to pull you up on the bit about your fans. I saw some of the updates on Sky last night which showed albion fans leaving in their droves after 30 mins (4-0 down) I wouldn’t call them the best of fans ! Don’t get me wrong, as a Midland club I hope you do do well - see some of my comments on other blogs (I even wished you good luck last night !!)It’s about time the area had 3, 4 or even 5 clubes in the top division
pete 37 - by all means take the mickey, its your turn, but why just write stupid stuff like 37.. we made SEVEN changes so how was that our 1st team ??
As I say - fill ya boots wolves fans but TRY to stay on planet earth or you will look a prat like pete (nothing new there though)
One bloke says you cheered all night another says you were booing, come on Tesco lets at least get our stories consistent.Sorry i have just remembered you have only just advanced to joined up writing. Now everyone follow my lead A,B,C,D,E…. Thats enough for you remedials for one day, however i must say i was impressed how quick you counted to four last night.
Make my day.. were ypu there? I heard the team on WM at 7 so what’s with your comments. As for your last post, look at the table now and look at it after your 2 away games! You are by far the worst dingle who posts on here..
And beobridge wolf.. my words of wisdom to you are..
MORCAMBE Look at the league and also the last time you actually finished above us when playing in the same league was.. 1999/2000 season.. A long time ago…
Now go back under your rock
Albion forever..
Filtowolf - I was there and i didn’t see droves of fans leaving after 30 mins… my mate said he heard the same thing on sky so maybe some did, but I never saw it.
As has already been said - well done Smethwick End for singing till the end.
I’ll let other Albion fans answer that from filton wolf.
Were you one of the leavers????
I didn’t see any by me (left side smethick)
FiltonWolf - I was there and didn’t see anyone leave in the first half. Maybe a few of us rushed for an early first half drink! Certainly not droves. And our fans were magnificent - Smethwick End kept going all night. BRE was largely awol though.
The Boggies are bound to have blips in the same way that Wolves have had this season. At the end of the day, I’d really like to see both clubs promoted. With Morgan’s backing I think Wolves would have a real chance of establishing themselves in the premiership.
cantello, it was sky who said albion fans where leaving in their droves.happy baggie! mowbray did bring on first team players to try to get back in it but the game was lost after 30,minuets it just shows the 2nd string are not good enough similar to wolves.and pete i am a !wolves fan! your not going to slag me off for the 4th time are you.
Heart FM announced there was chaos outside the Borethawns last night and the game had been kicked off at least half hour. I must say i was impressed.Midweek cup match and they were still queueing ? Sorry i didn’t realise they were trying to get out. ha ha ha ……somebody stop me i am crying again.
I was there last night ( east stand ) and everyone left for a pie and a pint when the 4th went in……….but they all came back.
Dingles - Pie & A Pint - remember that ? you normally get yours for free….
Regarding the game - some strange decisions - 5 in midfield , Beattie out wide , Morrison in the middle.
Miller was tremendous again though. Can’t wait to see his pace against the 2 OAP’s at the custard bowl.
There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom, knowledge is knowing a tomatoe is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put one in fruit salad!!!
Mowbray learnt a few things last night about a few players, very strange result.
The smethwick (were we sit) was back to its best last night.
Nathan 10-3… I like your comment on the wolves page:
Wolves reserves lost 3-1
Albion reserves lost 4-2
At least our opposition played their 1st team
Nice one and puts things in perspective
I’m only going on what I saw on telly and what the reporter said. In the background there certainly seemed to be a lot of movement towards the exits. Could have been an early half time pint - but after 30 mins ? Don’t get me wrong I’m not looking for an argument, the reporter also said that the albion fans were still getting behind the team so full marks to you for that. It’s the so called fans that don’t stick with their side through thick and thin that I’m having a go at - and that goes for the Wolves fans that are always moaning as well after a couple of bad results it’s usually doom and gloom !!
Happy_baggie
You aint bitter are you ha ha
Can’t wait for 24th Nov
This Nathan 10-3 guy always comes over as a nasty piece of work, maybe I’m wrong who knows?
You only have to look part of his name: 10-3. He’ll have to change it this year. If both matches are a draw will he change it to 2-2?
Don’t get me wrong we all have our d’heads but he comes across as a bitter guy with a chip on his shoulder.
I’m not mad about Happy_baggie but at least he talks sense most of the time.
There were people leaving after the 4th goal went in and at £5 and £10 entrance there would be those there who are fickle. Not in droves mind, just a few. However, 15 minutes before the game finished they were a pain in the backside and leaving in hundreds. It was interesting up to the end so why? There are those amongst us who support ‘winners only’ like the add-on Man.U. lot.
I would not normally criticise bad spelling on here, it’s the views that count, but how on Earth does the word ‘of’ suddenly become a verb? You can say ‘I have’, ‘You have’, but NOT ‘I of’ ‘You of’ for God’s sake. There are streams of other ‘texting’ nonsense too but we’ll let that pass. I once heard Dave Jones say ‘I would of brought him off’ in an interview. Oh dear!
No wonder Wolves got rid of him.
51 - yes it does put things in perspective - the main difference is, I can’t recall many Wolves fans banging on about ’strength in depth, I’m lovin it lovin it’ like you have nearly every week. Not so much perspective as a reality check I’d say.
But on the actual result, I really don’t care one way or the other, as many have said before, Mowbray will learn more about that line-up and result which will give him a better idea of what he has when injuries and suspensions kick in.
Birchland - yes we have strength AND quality in depth, but as i said in post 32… we have a home 11, and away 11 - a cup 11 was just pushing it a bit too far… but our 1st two 11’s are looking great !!
Sorry Happy, my mistake, didn’t realise that you regarded Miller as your third string !!
Birchland - I’m sure you understand my point - we can rotate players AND formation - on this occassion it didn’t work, but at least we CAN try these things.
Also regards Miller - that was his first 90 mins for us - so uptil now he has been a sub - not 3rd string but perhaps 2nd, although he may now be 1st - with Phillips of course. !!
H_B,with all the comments you are posting, you sure need a hug for reassurance. Go get one from TOMO!
LOL
4-0 in half an hour it must have bin shots in or the goalie was scared of the ball.

now can one of you explain why this is a reserve side, slightly under strength maybe but not reserve. when arsene wenger says it i believe it but keep rolling your excuses out as to why you lost. you lost because they had 3 experienced class players in their side who you showed too much respect to
truewolf
Actually Kiely is really Dracula, he does not like crosses.
Up the Wolves
63. Who writes your jokes? Stan Boardman? Terrible!!
A NO FRILLS PERFORMANCE BY THE TESCO LOT
happy baggie you always rave on bout the age of our defence
how old was the scorers combined last night
at guess they all least 34 so i reckon total age of bout 138-140 HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
GOOD DEFENCE GETTING SLAUGHTERD BY THEM? LEAST BREEN N GRAY COULD CATCH THEM UP OR FOUL THEM
64 - same bloke who said you lot had a “great squad with strength in depth”
pete (63)that joke is older than the dingle defence and thats saying summet :-)boingboing
