Villa star relishing games

laursen2.jpgVilla’s defensive kingpin Martin Laursen admits he is making up for lost time after earning the man of the match award in the 2-0 win against Everton.

The Danish international was in superb form as Villa kept their third clean sheet of the season. Laursen has been an ever-present in the league and is relishing the games after his career-threatening knee injury kept him out for 13 months.

“I probably appreciate it even more now than I did before, because I had so long out injured. Now I’m making up for lost time,” he said.

“It’s nice to be doing so well. I’m enjoying my football even more after my long period out. It’s nice to be back and playing well.”

Laursen is predicting a bright season for Villa - provided they can bolster their impressive home form with a good away record.

“We’re doing well at home and we know we can peform away - we did well at the end of last season,” he said.

“So if we can start to pick up away wins, we’ll do well.

“That was another good win at home and we really needed it after our disappointing defeat against Manchester City.

“We needed to perform well and get back on track. We’re doing well at home and it was good to keep another clean-sheet - not just for the defenders, but for Scott Carson. He’s started well for us.

“It was a very hard game and a big physical battle - especially in the first-half. I was very tired after the first-half, but they didn’t create that many clear chances, so we defended alright.”
