Hednesford go into tonight’s home clash with Ilkeston with under-pressure boss Phil Starbuck having made two signings to arrest the slide after five league defeats in a row.
Starbuck has swooped for 20-year-old Shifnal striker Linden Dovey and Kidsgrove midfielder Ashley Woolliscroft, 27.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to previously winless rock bottom side North Ferriby saw the Pitmen slump to 16th in the Unibond premier division.
Managing director Terry Brumpton said: “Most fans weren’t happy and they have every right not to be.
“No one is happy but we have to stick together and hope things will turn. We have two home games this week and two wins might make it look a different picture.”
The Pitmen were first to threaten when Dave Macpherson’s shot was fumbled by Antoni Pecora, the keeper smothering just as Tom Ward came charging in to pounce.
Hednesford went close again when Tom Ward headed wide and they were denied a penalty when Pecora pulled down Macpherson outside his area, but the referee waved play on.
Mario Pedro twice went close, while it took two attempts for Pecora to stop Ross Adams’s firm shot.
But the Pitmen were made to pay for missed chances as Chris Bolder fired North Ferriby ahead in the 53rd minute with a rising shot from a loose ball following a free kick after Gordon Simms was booked.
Hednesford’s Ross Dyer missed a penalty two minutes later when his weak effort was saved by Pecora after Dominic Heath was fouled.
North Ferriby made it 2-0 six minutes from time when Gary Bradshaw volleyed home Craig Hall’s cross.
