Pools fight may be lost

Hundreds of anglers campaigning to save four fishing pools in Oldbury look to have lost their fight as councillors are being urged to allow them to be filled in.

Planning bosses are expected to approve proposals at Brades Fishery, ending all hope it could ever be reopened.

Fishermen and nature lovers were outraged when the Roway Lane fishery was shut earlier this year after its owners Ridgacre Land Ltd claimed it was no longer a viable business.

The pools were then emptied and drained to the dismay of fishing fanatics who backed a consortium to buy the fishery back, sparking hope the Brades could be saved.

However, planning officers at Sandwell Council have controversially recommended plans to fill the pools with broken hardcore be backed later this week.

Avid fisherman and Brades campaigner Councillor Darren Cooper said he was stunned.

“I am disgusted with the recommendation to fill in the pools,” he said.

Councillor Cooper added he would still attend this week’s planning meeting with objectors.

Ridgacre Land Ltd submitted a plan to build homes on the land at the beginning of the year but later withdrew the application. A final decision on filling in the pools will be taken at Wedesday’s meeting at Sandwell Council House in Oldbury.

Who the hell are these councillors supposed to be representing?

They appear to forget they were elected by the people to represent the wishes of the people, these councillors just want to do what they want to do even if its against the wishes of the people, for goodness sake people use your vote when you get the opportunity and vote in people that represent what you want, not people like these councillors who only do what they want, they were not put there to look after their own interest they were put there for your benefit.

Did anyone ask you if you wanted to waste £70 million on a black box with funny shape windows that will never ever make a profit.

Did anyone ask you if you wanted to spend £4 million on a Green Bridge in West Bromwich, when there is a perfectly good bridge already there.

This council should try cleaning the roads and drains before building castles in the air.

    Well said Jim of Bearwood.
Politicians at local, national and international levels, put themselves and their interests first.
Initially, some of them enter the political arena with the intention of helping the people whom elected them. However, once they get their big snouts in the trough, greed takes over. I’ve met them, I’ve worked them out, I detest them.
99 per cent of them are Hypocrites of the highest order.
