2nd September 2007 Kick Off 14:30 Sandwell Dynamos Vs Norton J.F.C
First match of the season and the first competitive match for Norton J.F.C. As expected nerves were very much on show in the opening 5-10 minutes and it was Sandwell who found there feet first.
In what had been a very even opening Sandwell scored with what was the first real chance of the match, a lovely ball through was finished confidently by Sandwell’s number 7.
It was to be a very similar story 5 minutes later as the Sandwell forward made it 2-0.
As we started to get into the game a wicked bounce in our penalty resulted in Jamie Wrench handling, penalty was given and then put away 3-0.
It was at this point Adam Causer pulled off a stunning save which seemed to spring the team into life.
Suddenly all the play was going in one direction with Kieron O’Grady leading the fight back.
With 5 minutes of the half remaining a short corner from Michael Woodall was met by Joe Davis who curled it into the top corner.
More was to follow as with the last kick of the half Josh Webb had a great chance to make it 3-2 but his shot when agonizingly wide.
Half-Time 3-1
Second half was very much a case of us pushing forward looking for a second goal.
Sandwell’s defence continued to stand strong and as the half wore on Sandwell began to take control.
It was an o/g from a corner with about 15 minutes remaining that sealed the result for Sandwell.
To our credit we continued to push forward looking for away back into the game but by this time Sandwell were playing with plenty of confidence and scored fifth in the final minutes.
Full Time 5-1
Man of the Match - Kieron O’Grady Overall a performance with plenty of room for improvement, credit must also go to a very good Sandwell side who I feel on this form can look forward to a good season.
