No hair out of place for stars

Jamelia and Erin O’ConnorIt’s hard to believe as they stand side by side that these perfectly groomed beauties could ever have a bad hair day. But they say they do.Both Jamelia’s long locks and Erin O’Connor’s short crop hairdo looked glorious as the girls made a special appearance in Boots in Birmingham last night to launch their new haircare range.

“We all have bad hair days, don’t we?” laughed towering supermodel Erin, who stood head and shoulders above singer Jamelia, and did eventually remove her killer heels to save her from crouching down next to the pop star all night long.

“I’m lucky to have a good support team but at the end of the day we all look the same first thing in the morning don’t we,” smiles the Brownhills model.

Call her a supermodel and she actually shrugs at the mention of the word.

But, surely that’s exactly what she is, I say.

But this charming young lady with an air of ordinariness about her which you wouldn’t expect from someone so high profile in the fashion industry, gives the impression she feels uncomfortable with the title.

“It’s a strange description and one that I don’t really associate with myself,” says the charming Erin, who does indeed appear to be the human face of modelling.

“I never had the long hair or the perfect and polite look,” says Erin, who is a vice-chairman of London Fashion Week and a panel member of the Model Health Inquiry, which has been investigating health issues of models on the London catwalk.

She said there were a couple of things that sat uncomfortably with her within the fashion industry and things that needed to be addressed.

“I’ve enjoyed being actively involved in the model health inquiry and am pleased the panel saw how important it was,” said Erin, who will take to the catwalk herself after opening the fashion week in London next week.

“We’ve worked hard to see that issues within the industry need to be addressed, inluding the ban on under 16s,” she said.

“I advocated that girls under the age of 16 are kept away and protected because I believe we have a responsibility to protect young models,” she said.

Meanwhile Jamelia revealed that she was hoping for a reconcilation with her ex Darren Byfield.

The pop singer broke up with the footballer last month after three years together.

But she said she was “hopeful” of getting back together with the Bristol City striker.

“We miss each other very much and are trying to work things out,” she said.

“We are working towards a reconciliation,” she said and added their split had been a mutual one.

Jamelia and Erin, along with supermodel Helena Christensen, teamed up with hairdressers Tony & Guy to create the new designer collection, which is called Model Me.
