Bank Holiday Monday proved to be a real mix of emotions for all at AFC Wulfrunians.
What should have been a joyous occasion after hitting the top of the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division for the first time ever turned out to be a real sad affair with the news that legendary striker Ian Perry’s career may well be over.
His suspected broken ankle turned out to be exactly that and more on top.
The main fracture was to the lower fibula but there was also a slight fracture of the ankle and plenty of ligament damage.
He went in for an operation on Thursday and had to have the bones pinned and plated.
At the age of 37 it’s highly unlikely that Pezza will return to match action bringing the curtain down on a long and distinguished career.
He started out with Enville Athletic before moving on to Halesowen Harriers, Bilston Town, Willenhall Town, Stourport Swifts, Rushall Olympic, Sutton Coldfield Town, Stafford Rangers and Bridgnorth Town.
His all action style brought him plenty of goals wherever he played.
Pezza is held in very high regard by everyone who has ever worked with him and going out like this is not the way it should be.
All at AFC Wulfrunians wish him the best for the future and hope that his connection with the club is not over yet as he still has a massive amount to offer.
