Swifts boss Phil Mullen is backing his new-look strike pairing Craig Marshall and Wesley Joyce to fire them up the Midlands One table this season.
Mullen persuaded former Malvern forward Joyce to sign for the Swifts last week and reaped instant rewards as he helped secure their first win of the season against Chesham United.
Joyce hit the first goal and Marshall hit a pair to inspire Mullen’s men - and the manager was delighted with their instant rapport.
“They hit it off straight away. They are both target men-type strikers but they both like getting into areas where they can be dangerous,” he said.
“I think Wesley had more attempts on goal in the first half on Monday than we had combined in the first two games of the season.”
Joyce dropped out of the league over the summer due to work commitments but Mullen was able to persuade the 24-year-old to join him again at Walshes Meadow.
“He was with me at Evesham and I’d been chasing him for a while.
“He played a bit of Sunday league stuff but we finally got him to join up last week and he showed just why we were after him with a great performance.
“Craig is a good player too so hopefully we can start to generate some goals now,” he said.
Mullen reckons Swifts troubles in front of goal contributed to their nightmare campaign last season - and pin-pointed new strikers as key to a better campaign.
“It is difficult to get hold of people who can score goals so hopefully with Craig and Wesley we have got that now.
“It is easy to bring in players who work hard and graft but having that extra bit of spark about them makes all the difference.
“These two players look a real handful and hopefully they’ve helped us to turn a bit of a corner,” he added.
