Evesham Utd 1 Willenhall 0

goal1.jpgWillenhall Town went into the new Midlands league season with what looked to be a tough match against another of last seasons play off sides.

But it was the visitors who had the best of the chances and will feel unlucky to come away with a defeat.

Willenhall started well and after a good string of passes Mark Briggs saw his 20 yard effort rise just over home keeper Nathan Vaughan’s crossbar.

At the other end another of Mel Eves’ new signings Tyrone Barnett did superbly to collect the ball and make space for a shot, which crept inches wide of the post.

The decisive point came on 71 minutes, as Craig Gregg was fouled in the area Mark Briggs stepped up to take the resulting spot kick, but his tamely hit shot was easily saved by Vaughan diving to his right.

This seemed to spur the home side on, who took the lead on 82 minutes, as Willenhall failed to clear two efforts on goal, the ball fell kindly to Scheppel, who took his time to drive the ball beyond Jackson.
