Tackling the longest hole . . .

Common behaviour for the average club golfer is to arrive at a course late and head, almost immediately, to the first tee.

In contrast to other sports, the ordering of bacon sandwiches in the bar seems to hold more importance than a sufficient warm-up.

Such poor preparation would not be a good idea at Dartmouth Golf Club, whose vice-captain has recently found out that its par-five first is the longest opening hole in the country.

But not content with that honour, officials at the Sandwell nine-hole track are currently fundraising in order to extend the hole from 616 yards to about 700, a distance which would make it the longest opening hole in Europe.

Sports writer James Peacock and video journalist Andy Toft went to see just how demanding the challenge was in the first of our sporting video challenges.

Watch the video to see how they got on.

i play at dartmouth golf club ad i would advise anybody to go and play there the course is very tight and 1 mistake could land you in truble makes you think about your game alot more than if you play some where else, The opening hole is abit daunting to say the least but is great fun.

Nice Article, as a member let me tell you this is the friendliest club you’ll ever play but the course will probably beat you up. this600 yard monster is not even index 1. Come and play our 9 holes and 18 teesif your man enough. Well, do you feel lucky punk?

Made me want to get the clubs out.

A bit of work on that journo’s swing wouldn’t go amiss though.

Why did he insist on wearing his hat all the way through - can’t have been that cold……..unless you’ve got nothing on top???

Not a bad swing though and a good article??

    Terrible 3 putt though

    Horrible grip.

Overall though, full marks to the journalist; whilst he doesn’t look like a natural sportsman, he looks to have made the most of his limited natural ability through trying very hard at sport.

Looks like a nice course (and with that three-putt, I’d be striding confidently to the second, one-up).

Well well, shame about the 3 putt. Seems like he lost concentration to me - perhaps the enormous amount of pressure got to him.
