Love them or hate them, Crocs are becoming the must-have shoe this summer.
The brightly coloured holey shoes are certainly not the prettiest thing on the market, but for wearers, the comfort of Crocs makes up for the clog-like design.
While fashion fans may loathe them, parents and children alike are snapping up the practical shoes.
And the shoes, which don’t come cheap at £29.99 for adults and £19.99 for children, are proving popular in the Black Country and West Midlands.
They are one of the best sellers at Office shoe store at Merry Hill shopping centre.
“Crocs feature in our top five best sellers every week,” said sales supervisor Dan Shillingfield.
“Many customers come in and take a look at them and say they’ll never wear them, but once they’ve tried them on they don’t want to take them off and say they really comfortable shoes.
“We sell them in lots of colours, including bright shades and gold and silver, but most adults go for the more conservative colours such as pearl white, black and khaki,” he said.
Julia Overton, shoe department supervisor at Beatties in Dudley, said Crocs were popular with children and adults alike.
“They are popular because it’s holiday season but a lot of people who are on their feet all day at work also like them,” she said.
“And Crocs shoe charm type doodles can be attached to the holes and these are also selling well.”
Wolverhampton hairdresser Maxine Morgan wears her Crocs to work most days.
“They’re some of the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever worn and are great if you are on your feet all day,” said Maxine, who runs Maxine Morgan hair salon in Tettenhall.
Crocs were originally intended as a boating shoe because of their slip-resistant soles, but they have a grip on a much larger audience these days.

I noticed the price!! £30 & £20 respectivly. Here in Sweden that has always been regarded as an expensive country, the very same make of shoes are also a big seller. However they retail at equivelent of £12 & £8 respectivly. I suppose it`s just another example of Rip off Britain.
I was also amazed at the price. Here in the US, they are sold for $20-$30 (10-20 UK pounds) on the Internet, but at the larger retailers you often find them for under $15(7.50 UKP). I think I paid about $6 (3 UKP) in Walmart for crocs for my 4 year old.
The UK has a very high demand for original Crocs, they’re sold out in most retailers, so there is no need to discount them
Ann, what you’re refering to is patent infringing knock off Crocs made with EVA Foam which is much less comfortable than the real article. While you saved on price, you did miss comfort and may check out the real things at many other retailers. The Fake Crocs tend to offer much less support and will break much sooner than the real deal.
Hey Ann, sorry to say but you bought some fakes at Walmart and they aren’t genuine Crocs. Guarantee they won’t be as comfortable for your 4 yr old and they will wear out quickly.

Crocs are made from crosolite that makes the shoes feel like you are walking on a cloud. Real Crocs have 41 styles to chose from compared to the knockoffs. Crocs on all websites in the US sell for approximately $29.95 (14.77 British pounds) and up depending on the style for men and women. Kids crocs cost $24.99 (12.30 British Pounds) up to $39.99 (19.70 British Pounds) again depending on the style. Sometimes you might be lucky to get a coupon on the internet for 5% off. But that is that is the cheapest you can get them. Due to the supply and demand, you are not likely to see Crocs on sale. Make sure you have the words Crocs on your shoe or the Croc label–that is the only way you can be sure you are getting the real thing. Saw lots of knock-offs when I was in Scandinavia this spring. I wore crocs while travel and my feet felt great. I know this sounds like I am a spokesperson for the company, but I’m not. Crocs is just the only shoe I have found that I can wear and not have heel pain.
Please be aware, if you are buying Rubber clogs at Walmart, you are buying knock offs. The real Crocs brand shoe cannot be purchased at Walmart period nor anywhere for $6.00 - $15.00 USD.
