Loan exodus from Wolves

Mark DaviesMick McCarthy has sanctioned a loan exodus of Wolves’ young guns as he continues to shape his squad ahead of the Championship’s big kick off.

Molineux forgotten man Kevin O’Connor will lead the departures when he leaves Wolves for a League One side next week – with fellow squad men Daniel Jones and Mark Davies (pictured) also tipped to leave on loan before the season kicks off in a fortnight.

Third choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is another that McCarthy thinks will benefit from regular first team football this season, although injury has so far prevented him from finding a club.

McCarthy saw Stephen Gleeson and Wayne Hennessey blossom into genuine first team contenders after hugely succesful spells playing regular football with League Two Stockport last season and believes the loan system can work to Wolves advantage again this season.

Wolves summer recruitment drive has left first team places at a premium – and McCarthy cannot offer regular football to fringe men like Davies and Ikeme.

So far this summer winger Michael McIndoe is the only man through the Molineux exit door, which has left Wolves with one of the biggest squads in the division ahead of the August 11 kick off.

Wolves have not received any firm offers for their quartet of transfer-listed players but Jemal Johnson is expected to leave before the August 31 deadline.

The striker was watched by scouts from League One Crewe in yesterday’s goalless reserve team draw with Brighton and is also considering offers from teams in America.

He was stretchered off with a hamstring injury yesterday, but the knock is not believed to be serious enough to rule out a move before the end of next month.

McCarthy has made it clear that Johnson – along with Jamie Clapham, Denes Rosa and Tomasz Frankowski – have no place in his plans this season.

Meanwhile, Wolves sources have dismissed reports linking the club with a £1m move for Spurs’ young defender Phil Ifil.

Dont think we should let Dan Jones go…

But experience for the rest of them will do them good…

  2. matt81wwfc said:

I think sending out the youngsters to gain experience is a good idea, however I don’t think that Mark Jones will benefit from dropping down a division or 2. He needs to be in and around our 1st team. I would put him as a better player than Gleeson, and the only true creative midfield player that we have at the club!

I don’t believe it! Mark Davies is the best player at Molineux by miles! He should be starting every match in place of that fairy Olofinjana. Mick doesn’t know what he’s doing! Get rid now…

I would love to see Mark Davies being given a run in place of Olofinjana. Been impressed with Jones, too, and would like to see him fighting for a place.

MADNESS!!!! I agree with StewartonWolf, Mark Davies should start in the centre of the park with Karl Henry. George is just a powder-puff midfielder. For a man of his size he gets knocked off the ball far too easy.

Mick and Dave Jones before him, obviously see something in Olofinjana that the Molineux faithful don’t. He can make a great tackle or pass and then make several mistakes. No consistency at all.

Don’t do it Mick. You have had a good build-up to the season so far with some very astute transfers, but sending Daniel Jones and Mark Davies out on loan is crazy.

Send George out on loan… send him up the road to the Albion, his mediocrity will fit in a treat there, the fans will love him!

WHAT A COMPLETE PLEB!!! You really are a true Dingle…While every Wolves fan would like to see Mark Davies playing, because he’s from Willenhall….If he’s not ready, he’s not ready….Simple as that..ONE WOLVES…ONE DIRECTION

Come on StewartonWolf - ‘Mick doesn’t know what he’s doing’ is a bit strong! I’m guessing all will benefit from regular first team footy, and if they’re not getting it at Wolves then a loan is better. I’d assume they’ll all have a recall clause if cover is needed anyway, so no objections from me.

  8. sexy-wolf said:

i agree get rid of olofinjana keep davies dont understand why we not spending more money jez still tight and it wont help us

  9. matt71wolf said:

agreed Mark davies is well talented, but he needs regular first team football to recapture the form of the Twaddle era.

Olofinjana was one of our most consistant performers last season our 7 out of 10 man !!

Call yourself a Wolves fan? asking for MM to go !! Are you Boggies in disguise ?

  10. WeRWolves07/08 said:

StewartonWolf. What planet are you actually on? We got through a whole season of no Mark Davies last season. While I’ll not dispute the fact that he is obviously talented, he is of yet not an integral part of the team, If he hasn’t impressed Mick then thats his problem, we haven’t seen loads of him after all except for shining in a poor Hoddle team, Get behind the lads and Mick you idiot! you sound like a Tesco bag with those comments!

    Up the Wolves!

  11. Marcus said:

stewartonwolf go and buy a season ticket at tesco we dont need supporters like you

  12. Oh I'd rather be a dingle.... said:

    StewartonWolf,

I hope your comments (3) about getting rid are tongue in cheek…..MM has stated that Mark Davies needs to get his head right - maybe a spell in the lower leagues will give him a reality check. Davies may then be ready in Jan when George goes to play in the African Nations Cup…

  13. we8wba said:

thank you stweawrton wolf, im not the only one who think olofinjana for a big bloke is a fairy!

davies needs match fitness, we cant afford for him to do that at us look we have big game 1st game, he goes on loan for 2-3months comes back hopefully fit as a fiddle n pushing for 1st team.

o’connor loan good as long he plays same with ikeme!

d.jones i would like here cover for left back n left wing cant see him going out on loan unless we sign another left winger n left back! as no quotes from coaches or mick

could be case express n star just filling rubbish again

  14. Micmacstheman said:

StewartonWolf - What can I say, are you joking.

People like you should be supporting Albion instead!

  15. welsh y'am y'am said:

I think a lot of people on here obviously don’t post on Molineux Mix else they’d know that Stewarton is deadly serious.

  16. Leigh said:

I’m know Olofinjana has his faults but i think he has epitomised what the MM era is about. He’s committed, focused, energetic, and a fighter. Plus he keeps the midfield ticking over. He is more senior than the youngsters, but with that I think he gives them the experience they need. In the first leg of the Albion play off he was kept the team driving on. His goal was typical of the man.

As far as Davies and the rest of the youngsters - what harm will it do. MM obviously sees them in training and knows what they need. Wolves are in a win win situation. They get match fitness, form and experience - and can be recalled when needed. That way it keeps everything ticking over.

  17. exiled salopian said:

Given Mark Davies injury woes last season it makes absolute sense to send him on loan. Give him chance to show he is fit again and build up his match fitness. This lad looks a real prospect we do not need to ruin him!

  18. lloydythawolf!! said:

why everyone moanin about olofinjana he was part of the team that helped succeed last season with out him we wouldnt have done aswell as we did. I personally think that olofinjana is one of our better player and about mark davies he did my football presentation last season and ive heard stories about him which might put you off him playing for us. What i mean by this is he is not playin for the shirt bu the money in his pocket!!!!!

  19. Greengrass said:

Mark Davies is Magic, why let him go out on loan? an exciting home grown talent that can easily play in our 1st team!

  20. Sedgley Scotty P said:

Olifinjana was a cosistant performer last year who got better and better mark davies is recovering from injury and will not get in the team (behind with fitness)so sending him out on loan is a great idea build his fitness and confidence right back up and then if he does perform then bring him back SIMPLE !!

  21. solihull wolves said:

LEE COLLINS IS IN SQUAD FOR TOMORROWS GAME - ANYONE KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIM ?

  22. Sedgley Scotty P said:

Olifinjana was a consistant performer last year and did well and mark davies is recovering from injury so will not start so its a good idea to send him on loan to build up his fitness and confidence and then IF he is performing im sure the option is there to bring him straight back SIMPLE!

  23. quality counts said:

Its standing back now guys! Everything has been said, everything thought about, every dime spent (well what they had!), no Morgan money and I feel a really weak overall team. Now its time for us all to await and see what happens.

Funkster76 mentions one direction. I like that, I remember telling a cop one night, after driving up a one way street the wrong way

“hey, but I was only going one way!”

… got a ticket..I think Wolves might get theirs by Christmas

  24. matt81wwfc said:

Don’t agree with Stewartonwolf, I think George is a decent player but I stand by my original comment, surely Davis is in the top 4 CM at the club?

  25. rickyyyyyyyyy said:

mick wake up mark davies is to good to be loaned out NOOOT HAPPY

  26. rickyyyyyyyyy said:

    p.s. olofinjana is class

  27. London Wolf said:

I think they’re all ready for a loan out. It’ll do them good and make them hungrier.

Lets face it - none of them will win us the championship for us next season and players like Eastwood and Elliott need quality service.

  28. Happy_Baggie said:

  30. Vissy said:

I must say I parshally agree with Stewatonwolf. A talent like davis doesnt come along every day, and micks harsh managment may ruin the best polayer on the books. davis should be the first name on the teamsheet imo/imv. olos a fairy potter is a crab (kieth andrews mark too!!!!1). there is no creativness in midfield wivout davis imho.

  31. wolves89 said:

mark davies is a wolves fan through and through i know that he turned down many offers from premiership teams when he was stil an academy players so he isnt jus playinf for the money in his pocket but i do agree he needs to go out on loan to earn some valuable first team experience

  32. peter said:

no way should mark be on loan by far better player than potter

  33. Phil said:

As Sedgley Scott P says! Olo did well last season. Davies is still recovering from an injury. Let him go out to a lower league club for a few months, if he does well bring him back, if he doesn’t then we’ve not missed much!

  34. Dave said:

Walsall should sign Davies as his bnrother plays for us and he would help us get promoted!

    UP THE SADDLERS!!!!!!!!

  35. nightflyer69 said:

Panic Panic Panic. Come on for heavens sake, nobody has said they are going on loan yet and if they do have faith in Mick. If he deems they need to go on loan then so be it, he knows what he is doing and I am sure there will be a recall if they are needed. Lets get the season underway and see where we are with the players we have before we start moaning.

  36. WeRWolves07/08 said:

Speaking of loans has anyone heard that we’re after Phil Ifil from Spurs? he can play both right back and Left so would be a good acquisition…

  37. Prawn Sandwich said:

Get serious. Mark Davies is a good kid who might one day become a good footballer. He’s not ready. The loan system is perfect for him. same for Dan Jones whe personally i think is closer to the finished article. Remember seeing him last season terrorise a right back. Just needed a final ball. Aloan is where he’ll get the practice without the stick.

  38. Greeno said:

I’d happily see Mark Davies go out on loan, I don’t doubt his potential or quality, but what’s he actually done or achieved for us? He played well in the Twaddle era, but let’s face it, we were all scraping round for positives then weren’t we? This might be another Mick master stroke, MD goes out, get’s his fitness and most importantly, confidence back…Then Big George goes off to the African Cup of Nations and here is Davies waiting in the wings to fill the void. Regualar first team football cannot be replaced by training alone.

  39. ochaye said:

StewartonWolf wants rid if the first real manager we have had since Cullis and he has the gaul to call himself a “wolf” - its fans like him we need rid of. Unless of course he can specify who will take Micks place as our leader.

  40. King Tom said:

I can see both sides of the debate but I would have expected Davies to challenge for a place this season.

However, I totally disagree with the slagging off of Big George. OK, he does sometimes shy away from the tackle but I think we’ve all worked out by now he’s not Patrick Vieira. But he’s got enough quality to get us out of the fizzy pop league. He scores goals and that’s one thing that I don’t think Potter or Henry bring to the table.

I think Davies is a good footballer, but to me he still looks like a boy. He needs to get some strength and fill out a bit so he can get into the positions to hurt teams with his ability. We’ve seen it work for people like Joe Cole and Koumas as they got a bit older and hopefully he can join the likes of these. He’s certainly good enough.

  41. matt81wwfc said:

Mark Jones aint a kid! He is older than Rooney and Ronaldo!

  42. dave cornish wolves said:

yes let a few go out on loan..not mark davies though as he would add a little to the first team squad..as for those who are running down george i cant agree with them ..for me he is one of our key elements this season..

don’t agree with stewartonwolfs comments about mm but it a bit harsh to call him or tell him to go and watch the tesco’s. repect mm and respect the thoughts of other who do not agree with mm decissions as they do not know as much as god’s left hand man(mm)

  48. DUDLEY WOLF said:

I’ll be sorry to see Daniel Jones go out. I was hoping to see him do a job at left back this season, but leave it to the experts, they know what they are doing and we must go along with them. BEST OF LUCK LADS, WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU, WHATEVER.

  49. loughborough wolf said:

My worry is not about these loans-they are a great idea, but shouldn’t we get someone good in at left-back and centre-half ASAP?

  50. petewolf said:

How can people say that olofinjana shoudnt be in the startin 11, hes a class act , scored lots of vital goals last year is good on the ball an our midfield would be stronger with him in!!!!!!!

  51. fullmoon said:

Let MM dictates who goes and who stays. Can’t understand some of you ficklie fans.FFS,the season has not started yet.Suddenly,it’s Mark Davies this and Mark Davies that!

do you lot watch the same team i do??????? olofinjana was top goalscorer last season and made some tremendous tackles…you should get off his back and critisize other players that are worse than geaorge such as potter(piece of crap from liverpool) i think it hsould be karl henry and george in midfield this season!!!!!!!

    up the wolves

Whos gonna play right back, collins is limited,Edwards as been injury prone.Thats one reason why we dont score enough goals, poor fullbacks.

StewartonWolf, you are the one who does not know what you are doing doing, Seyi earned and kept his place last season on merit. Our most productive central midfielder by far last season and he got us 10 goals. Yes Mark Davies and Dan Jones are quality and their time will come, but we need to keep them both sharp with competitive football and we can always recall them at no notice
