Memories of Dudley’s famous footballer Duncan Edwards are being collected for a book marking the 50th anniversary of his death next year.
The vicar at St Francis’ Church on the Priory, where the footballer’s funeral was held, is compiling the book and wants to hear from people who lived in the same street, or went to the same school or even played soccer with the sporting legend.
A booklet was produced for the 40th anniversary of the Manchester United and England star’s death but the Reverend Geoff Johnston wants to update it and feature personal anecdotes.
Video journalist Victoria Hoe went along to meet the vicar and also got a sneak preview of a forthcoming exhibition on the footballer, to be held at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.
Duncan Edwards was in the Munich air disaster of 1958 and died 15 days later.

an absolute legend, I am a wolves fan too young to have seen this icon play, but my father tells me of the true great that was Duncan!
I have seen footage of him in action, There will never be a player quite like him! a huge appetite for the game, huge talent and above all a huge heart! Long live the memory!
How refreshing it would be to have the like of Duncan Edwards playing in the premiership now, I’m afraid the overpaid prima donnas of today will never have the same honesty, commitment, or loyalty to club or fans as he had.
I have seen you play in video’s, Read about you, Just class people and great person.
What happened in munich is the day that changed football and changed the history of our club.
You are sadly missed and the rest as well.
How many times we will never know.

The only “Perfect Player” that I have ever seen in 55 years of watching the game. I was lucky enough to watch him for most of his career at United and without doubt, he had “the lot”. I just wish that some of today’s overpaid, overpampered, and overated so called stars, could take a step back, and have a look at Duncan’s life and career and take notice. He was the perfect role model, the perfect player with the perfect temprament, who was never in the news for the wrong reasons. A tremndous credit to his parents, his club, his country, and to the game of football of which he loved so much. My memories of him never dim.
Too young to see THE GREAT MAN, or should I say `MON!` Video clips, pictures and stories in books are `my memories`. My mom sat next to him in school, dad played football with him, knowing my dad probably standing there in awe! Duncan you were a true legend, Dudley and the rest of the footballing world look up to you. In your immortal worlds, when asking for the ball on the pitch, ` GIZ IT EEA!`
