Teixeira’s Premier ambition

Felipe TeixeiraNew boy Felipe Teixeira today set his sights on playing Premiership football with Albion after becoming boss Mowbray’s third summer signing.

The Portuguese midfielder joins Craig Beattie and Shelton Martis as new faces at The Hawthorns as boss Mowbray bids to put his own stamp on the squad following the departures of Diomansy Kamara and Jason Koumas.

Albion view the 26-year-old playmaker as a direct replacement for Koumas, who joined Wigan for £5.3m last week.

And Teixeira, who has only previously played in Portugal and France, is relishing the prospect of trying his luck in England, even if he has warned it may take him time to settle into life in a new country.

“I’m very happy to join West Bromwich Albion,” said Teixeira, speaking through an interpreter.

“It’s a new stage in my career and I want to help the club move forward.

“All players want to play in England and I am excited to have this opportunity.

“My aim is to get West Bromwich Albion back in the Premiership. I like attacking and taking on players and I know there are good players here like Kevin Phillips and John Hartson who will help me do that.

“I will need a small period of time to adapt but I’m hoping to impress the fans and have a good season.”

Teixeira has joined Albion for £600,000 from Portuguese top-flight club Academica de Coimbra, signing a three-year contract with a further 12 months in the club’s favour.

With Albion in Slovenia until tomorrow, Teixeira has returned to Portugal to tie up a few loose ends and is expected to join his new team-mates early next week.

He could make his Baggies bow in next Wednesday’s friendly at Northampton, and boss Tony Mowbray is looking forward to having Teixeira on board.

“Filipe is a creative midfielder,” said Mowbray. “He’s a talented, very technical player who we identified and we’re delighted he’s joined us.”

Teixeira, a former Portugal under-21 international, made 29 appearances for Academica last season, scoring one.

By all accounts Texeira is highly regarded in Portugal, their media is surprised he has agreed to play second tier football. But talk is cheap, lets reserve judgement until we have seen him play.
The rumour mill regarding players coming in seems to have ground to a halt, anybody else heard anything?????

My ideal scenario would be, Davies sold for £9,000,000 and a TALL powerful replacement, Robinson fit again to partner McShane, Wallwork back to his best, Albrechtsen to convince ToMo he’s worth the trouble..that’s the bravest set up at the back you could wish for, then Ellington to either put up, shut up or clear off and we could have a team. I hear Hartson is slogging away in training, let’s hope we can get a season out of him, he could teach Beattie a lot.

Agree with Cyril Randle - but lets not forget Clem either.. When you look at the whole squad we have a really good chance in this league - everyone has lost players so we aint on our own there and I think we have made some decent sigings to replace them.

I think we are maybe two signings away from a real push at the title but may have to settle for playoffs again.

As long as we have another ToMo season full of goals I don’t care - BOING BOING !!

Happy_Baggie, forgive me for forgetting Clem, put it down to VERY old age! Like Blues fans I was ‘tired and weary’ with the boring football of Meggo and Robbo, so praise be to ToMo for reviving my interest.
Meggo has since proved to be unemployable, no chairman would feel safe with him around (Paul Thompson still has unhealed wounds in his back) and I shall watch Robbo and Sheffield United with great interest.
