Anger at park ban plan

health-hospitalsw.jpgPeople living opposite Walsall Manor Hospital could be banned from parking outside their homes when the entrance is moved as part of a masssive re-development.

The news has infuriated people in Moat Road, where parking spaces are already limited.

Walsall Council say the proposed new entrance on the corner of Pleck Road and Moat Road would be used by the 999 bus service and drivers will be unable to enter and exit the grounds safely if several cars are parked opposite.

Ward Councillor Dennis Anson said he has been contacted by residents who are upset by the proposals. He said: “All the streets are becoming jam packed and I know people are unhappy about these latest proposals as they want to be able to park outside their homes.”

Walsall Council said it will ask Skanska Innisfree, who are to carry out the £140 million Private Finance Initiative rebuild, and the hospital trust if Moat Road residents can be allocated spaces in the hospital car park, outside visiting hours.

Keith Stone, Walsall Council assistant director for the built environment, said if the development control committee, meeting on Tuesday, decides to press ahead residents will be able to make their views known.
