Violent husband jailed

A father-of-three who attacked his wife in a Trysull pub has been locked up for two-and-a-half years.

Mr Bernard Lineman, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday how Alexander Green, of High Street, Swindon, in Staffordshire, had argued with his partner in the pub on November 3.

He said: “He became so angry that he smashed a glass on the bar. “He then pushed his wife with sufficient force that she fell onto the glass.” She needed six stitches.

Mr Lineman added that on November 18, Green returned home from the pub and threw his wife, who had been looking after the children, out of the house.

He said: “He grabbed her by the throat and put his hand over her mouth.” Green said he would “sort her out” if she pressed charges and he was jailed, the court heard.

He admitted wounding, common assault and witness intimidation.

Mr Mark Heywood, defending, said: “His difficulties with alcohol prevent him from seeing situations for what they are and stop him from taking control of himself.”
