Right of way is baa-ffling!

sheep2.jpgSheep are legally allowed to make their way through a Black Country booking office, after a council failed to properly close a right of way, it is claimed.

Historians said Wolverhampton City Council never formally applied to close the right of way through Wolverhampton’s Woolpack Alley before it was bricked up to create the new Midland Box Office.

So according to old highway laws, the right to pass through Woolpack Alley, including the right to drive sheep, still stands.

The fact was revealed by Frank Sharman, who, along with the rest of the Wolverhampton History and Heritage Society, fought to save the alley from closure.

It dates back centuries and was used to keep sheep when Wolverhampton was a key town in the wool trade.

Mr Sharman, who wrote about the matter in the society’s newsletter, said he had been pressing the council about the matter to no avail. “Many years ago the council changed the line of Woolpack Alley and did so without any legal authority. The result of this is that the original right of way continued in existence,” he said.

Wolverhampton City Council spokesman Tim Clark said: “We have been sent a copy of the article in the History Society’s newsletter and will look into the issues that it raises.”

It’s absolutely appalling! Why do these sad old men always spoil it? Woodpack Alley was an absolute disgrace with graffiti all over and people being assaulted. The City Council have done the right thing, there is all ready some sort of access to the Mander Shopping Centre through the other alleyway. One is enough. Yes Woodpack may have been historic to the City of Wolverhampton but it can be recognised through people and books. In this day and age these historic facts will be stored. Its good that there is an extension to the info centre as it’s the city of Wolverhampton’s visitor centre. I wish these sad old people who have nothing else to do with their time would stop moaning and also threaten the City Council by barging silly sheep through this new state-of-the-art Box Office and the Information Centre. Will you stop moaning!!! and do something useful.

It simply adds to the councils loosing credibility. it took them ages to actually find out that their dog fouling laws had lapsed so all the new doggy doo fine signs were in fact unlawful as no one could persue anyone for the fines!
I think its about time our local council showed signs of professionalism, rather than the comedy of errors it portrays so readily.
