Three roads in Brierley Hill will be affected by work on the town’s multi-million pound jam-busting scheme.
The work, which is part of a £27 million by-pass project to ease traffic misery around the clogged High Street, will affect Little Cottage Street, Pedmore Road and Hill Street.
Motorists will be prevented from turning right into Mill Street from Little Cottage Street from June 4 and a 20mph speed limit will be introduced on Pedmore Road between Level Street and Peartree Lane.
The measures will be brought into operation by signs only when required by the work on the by-pass.
But the top part of Hill Street will be closed from May 29 for 18 weeks with motorists being diverted onto the Promenade via High Street and Mill Street.
The project will see a new road running parallel to the High Street being built between Dudley Road and Church Street, together with a new road linking Waterfront Way with Pedmore Road.
It is hoped the work, which is scheduled to be finished by August next year, will end a traffic bottleneck in the town.
Improvements are also schedule to be carried out on Hickman Road/Pensnett Road, Bryce Road/Pensnett Road and Bank Street/Brockmoor High Street during the course of the scheme in order to keep traffic moving.
Work on the road was given the go-ahead late last year after months of delays when council bosses secured more than £20 million of government funding.
Transport bosses have spent the past few weeks undertaking site investigations at a haulage yard in Level Street and land adjacent to Asda’s car park to enable the work to begin.
Some residents had expressed concern about traffic problems while the work is carried out but transport bosses have set up an internet link to keep them informed about how the work is progressing.
Dudley Council has announced it will be opening the Citizens’ Advice Bureau office in Cottage Street for regular drop-in sessions so people can find out more about the scheme.
