Housing association offers more

choices-housing-ass.jpgChoices Housing Association is a specialist organisation which provides housing, care and support for people with a learning disability.

However, what makes Choices different is that it is a ‘not for profit’ organisation with the emphasis on excellent service provision while keeping charges as low as possible and with any surplus being reinvested into providing more housing and support options.

Choices has also been at the forefront of modernising and improving services for people with learning disabilities.

Chief executive Sally Pritchard says: “We are committed to continuous improvement and have demonstrated that things can be improved by developing new and innovative services ourselves.”

Choices Housing make sure that service users are central to the way the organisation operates.

Sally adds: “In order to ensure our tenants can participate in service planning and improvements we have always funded initiatives that enable individuals to develop their skills in order that they can advocate for themselves and others.”

In recent years, Choices has funded Partners in Policy Making - a scheme designed to enable individuals with learning disabilities to engage with policy makers regarding the types of services that they would like to see being developed in the future.

Funding has also been given to advocacy groups and theatre groups who work with young adults with learning disabilities.

Director of housing at Choices, Nigel Downs, says: “We are also really excited at what can be achieved by partnership working with local authorities and other housing organisations.

By working together we can maximise resources and develop new and improved services.”

Choices has also developed an excellent reputation as an employer and has recently won regional and national accolades for its training and development programmes.

The next two years will see continued growth for Choices and as director of human resources Gill Juggins says: “Choices is a great organisation to work for, with sound values and a genuine commitment to its staff and service users.

“We are always seeking to recruit people who can demonstrate they have the right attitude and values.”
