From one bedroom to £1m

rockview.jpgA sprawling country home which started life as a one-bedroom bungalow 13 years ago has gone on the market for almost £1 million.

When Jackie Coldicott and her husband first arrived at Rock View in 1993, the couple could never have imagined how the property would expand over the years.

The one-bedroom bungalow they bought for £180,000 was transformed into a spacious split-level three bedroom home. The garage was converted into living space and several extensions created a study, store room and four separate living room areas.

Part of the building on Kingsford Lane, Kingsford, near Kinver, resembles a traditional Sunday school from the outside and the religious theme is maintained inside. The couple took trusses and pews out of a church which was being demolished in Quarry Bank, Dudley.

The trusses were used as part of the garage extension and the pews made into chairs for seating.

Boasting five acres of land including a paddock and woodlands, the building offers views across Kinver Edge and the surrounding Kingsford Country Park. Mother-of-two Jackie, aged 45, now wants to downsize into a smaller detached house and has put her dream home on the market for £925,000.

It is a far cry from when she first arrived on the scene.

For the first 12 months the family lived in a double decker bus while the building was being converted.

Miss Coldicott said: “I suppose we went a bit over the top after being cooped up in that bus for a year.

“We created a lot of space - perhaps more than we needed.”
