A big-eyed beauty named Henrietta has been given a warm welcome from scores of visitors at a West Midlands farm.
Henrietta was born on Maunday Thursday, the first of two calves to be born at Forge Mill Farm over the Easter weekend.
The new calves, both Aberdeen Angus and Jersey crosses, gave the Great Barr visitor centre a definite ‘Aaahh’ factor as youngsters jostled to catch a glimpse of Henrietta and her cousin Islay, named after a Scottish island, who was born on Easter Saturday.
The farm’s 55-strong herd are expected to produce between 20 to 27 calves this year. Already 20 have been born, although the last is not due to arrive until October. Farms manager Tony Hoile said it was particularly good to see the new calves after last month’s devastating fire at the farm during which 11 calves were burned, four of them badly.
All the calves are now back at Forge Mill after being moved to the Sandwell Valley site to convelesce. He said: “The visitors love the new calves. There were more than 100 watching us milk the cows today.”
Also in demand were a set of quadruplet lambs born at the farm two weeks ago, multiple births are extremely rare in sheep.
