wd2039401angels-ts-04.jpgYoungsters dreaming of following in the footsteps of Denise Lewis have been been learning about athletics during an Easter coaching course.

The athletics development at Walsall Council has this week been staging sessions for girls at the borough campus of Wolverhampton University.

The ‘Athletics Angels’ course for eight to 15-year-olds has been sponsored by Walsall Children’s Trust and running from the morning to early afternoon.

The free sessions have been supervised by qualified, CRB checked, UK Athletics coaches from Walsall Junior Athletics Club and other athletic clubs. Following the Easter coaching, Walsall’s popular Junior Athletics Club (JAC) starts outdoors again on Saturday, April 21, from 10am until noon at the Gorway Campus.

Session one from 10-11am is for primary school aged athletes and session two from 11am to noon is for secondary aged students. Fees are £2 outdoors and £2.50 for indoor sessions.

The club acts as a recruitment vehicle for talented youngsters to progress to local athletics clubs but for more details call Steve Walton, Athletics Development Officer, on 01902 605500 or 07963 413437. Alternatively send an email to waltons@walsall.co.uk
