Wild about jungle king Matt

matt-2-dw-25.jpgIf fans had read the recent media coverage about Matt Willis, they could have anticipated his Wolverhampton show was going to be a little on the quiet side.

With reports of poor ticket sales and a lukewarm reception to his solo album, what a surprise then to find the Wulfrun Hall packed to the rafters with screaming young girls and a fair few older fans as well.

While the Kaiser Chiefs thrashed around before an audience next door on Friday night, jungle king Matt more than delighted the younger rockers in town.

Clad in a white shirt and waistcoat, he bound around stage with the same vigour reminiscent of his Busted days while his fans yelled for more.

With the friendliness that made him a hit in the reality TV Show I’m A Celebrity, he chatted to the audience throughout the show. The songs from his album Don’t Let It Go To Waste are very catchy and he comes across much more grown up than his previous incarnation as one third of a boy band.

His Sutton Coldfield-born girlfriend, MTV presenter Emma Griffiths, was in the crowd to cheer him on along with a big group of their friends.

The only drawback was that he was only on stage for just over an hour – but then I suppose it was a school night for most.
