Tesco stores create 100 jobs

Around 100 jobs are being created at three new branches of Tesco Express in Wolverhampton.

Bosses also said today the first store would open in Penn Road on January 12.

They are also in talks to build two more mini-markets on Tettenhall Road and Willenhall Road.

Part of Penn Road has been sealed off for several weeks while contractors build the new branch.

Tesco Express spokeswoman Carol Leslie said: “Work is progressing very well on the Penn Road site and we are planning to open to customers on January 12.”

The unveiling of the store, which also includes an Esso petrol station, will come as welcome news for residents in the area, who were left to travel further afield after the previous filling station closed in 2004.

Tesco also hope to carry out an identical plan on the site of the former Newbridge Service Station on Tettenhall Road.

Those plans have been put on hold while traffic impact assessments are carried out.

An application for another store at 1 Willenhall Road, Horseley Fields, is being scrutinised by planning officers.

Tesco also wants to create a superstore on the site of Raglan Street, but faces a battle from Sainsburys.
