With their endless array of heartbreak harmonies and melancholy melodies, The Magic Numbers certainly know how to stir the emotions.So moved by their rainy-day folk and slo-mo choruses, one overcome reveller dropped to his knee to propose to his startled partner midway through the performance.
On the face of it, a sweaty, beer-saturated concert venue in the centre of Brum isn’t the most romantic location to declare feelings of undying love.
Yet with the heartrendering vocals of Romeo Stodart serving suitably as a soundtrack, it’s easy to excuse the over-zealous grand gesture.
After a slightly cringe-worthy round of applause at the behest of the bearded singer, the show resumed with more strangely uplifting songs of unrequited love such as the anthemic Forever Lost and Love Me Like You.
