Thunder clap from the fans

Rock band ThunderThunder

Following their triumphant appearance at Monsters of Rock this June, rockers Thunder rolled back into Wolverhampton last night on the fifth date of their current tour to thump out a number of old favourites as well as a selection from their gritty new album Robert Johnson’s Tombstone.

After revving up the crowd with a pre-gig playlist including The Devil Went Down to Georgia and Sympathy for the Devil, the rockers soon had the audience in the mood for a hell of a good time with their opener Back Street Symphony.

Frontman Danny Bowes’ trademark milking of the crowd ensured everyone clapped and cheered their way through numbers from the new CD such as Dirty Dream, What A Beautiful Day, and the heart-tugging power ballad A Million Faces.

Infectious title track Robert Johnson’s Tombstone saw guitarist Luke Morley showing off his harmonica skills, then it was back to his Flying V for the band’s naughty new single The Devil Made Me Do It, released on December 4.

The Londoners mixed in old favourites from past albums which kept fans in super-high spirits for the near two-hour show, and included Gimme Some Lovin’, River of Pain, Fade Into The Sun, Love Walked In and the band’s Monsters of Rock 2006 opener I Love You More Than Rock ‘n’ Roll, from the Magnificent Seventh album.

A devilish finale of Can’t Keep a Good Man Down, and Better Man – in which drummer and crowd favourite Harry James stepped forward to play acoustic guitar – had the fans in raptures and still singing along on command.

The band said after the gig that that the crowd had been amazing and Wolverhampton was the best night of the tour so far.
