Panto sales reach 13,000

jimmycricket.jpgLichfield’s festive panto has already sold more than half of the 24,000 tickets allocated for this year’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Almost 13,000 tickets have been snapped up by theatre-goers eager to see the show, which will be at the Garrick Theatre from December 7 to January 7.

The show will star Irish comic Jimmy Cricket, who will be appearing in his third panto at the theatre.

Bosses said the amount of tickets already sold is “considerably up” on the amount sold this time last year for Sleeping Beauty.

And to make even more people aware of the upcoming panto, the AA has erected signs at the entrances to the city, directing visitors where to go.

Full cast rehearsals for Jack and the Beanstalk, which also stars Black Country favourite Lizzie Wiggins and local multi-award winning radio presenter and author Malcolm Boyden, get under way on November 27.

But the children’s rehearsals, for the chorus and dancers, start on Sunday.

Several shows have also sold out including the 1.30pm performance on December 8; performances on December 12, 13 and 14; the 1.30pm performance on December 15 and the 10.30am show on December 19. The 1.30pm performance on January 4, and the 2pm one on January 5, are also full.

Adrian Jackson, artistic director at the Lichfield Garrick, said: “Everyone at the theatre is looking forward to the rehearsals starting for Jack and the Beanstalk.

“It will be great to welcome Jimmy back again, and this year he is being joined by a fantastic cast.

“I am sure we will be kept entertained with plenty of jokes and music whilst the whole cast are perfecting what I know will be a brilliant pantomime for the whole family.”
