The Fratellis
Carling Academy, Birmingham
Fratelli fever filled the air last night as the Glaswegian three-piece swept through their hooky melodies with ridiculous energy and contagious enthusiasm.
Touted as the next big thing, the power-pop trio’s riotous, glam-stomping set went down a storm at a heaving Carling Academy, much to the unbridled pleasure of the predominantly student crowd.
From the unmistakable Chelsea Dagger to the crowd pleasing Creepin Up The Backstairs, the fiery threesome reaffirmed their rock credentials, prompting a steady surge of inebriated crowd surfing throughout.
Other than an expletive-peppered tirade by frontman Jon Fratelli at an exuberant beer hurling reveller, the night resembled a love-in, with the gabba-mouthed frontman stealing the show with his dangerously tight denim and theatrical stage swagger.
Debut album Costello Music certainly lends itself to the live stage with the riotous crowd baying for more .
