Saw it with my eyes closed

saw.jpgAt cinemas now: Saw III

Make no mistake, Saw III is as bad as it looks, writes Lisa Williams. No amount of blood and gore was left on the cutting room floor with this one. In fact, the cuts come so thick and fast it’s advisable to buy popcorn just in case the bucket comes in handy.

As a self-confessed horror film fan you can imagine my delight when I discovered Saw 3 was about to hit cinema screens. Having revelled in the grim scenes and psychological twists of the first two films I couldn’t wait.

However, even I was not prepared for what I think is the most disturbing film I have seen. Ever.

After much ado, I dragged my not-so-willing boyfriend to watch it on its second night of opening.

The lights dimmed and the sweet crunching slowed to a stop as the opening scene splattered across the screen leaving the chatty audience stunned into a slackjawed silence.

Let the nightmare begin.

As the credits rolled I could already feel my heart racing in my chest. The opening scene was, well, disgusting. My stomach was churning and I felt quite sick. My partner also looked a little pale.

Within minutes I wanted to leave and found myself cowering behind my coat plucking up courage to occasaionally look at what was going on.

The blood-curdling noises were making my imagination run riot enough.

I spent most of the first 10 minutes whispering: “Let’s go, I don’t want to stay, this is wrong.”

But I was brave and I stuck it out. It got worse with even more scenes of torture and unimaginable death traps.

Thirty minutes in and the inevitable happened; voices, a commotion, someone running out for help, then staff carrying a very faint grown man through the darkness and into the sanctuary of the foyer.

He was the latest in a long line of cinema-goers all over the country who had passed out while watching the full horror unfold.

Eventually after 107 nightmarish minutes it ended in a bloodfest with a twist and the stunned audience filed out in silence, perhaps wishing they’d stayed in and watched X-Factor instead.

Me? I hated it so much I can’t wait to see it again - but this time with my eyes open.

Thousands of fantastic holidays to choose from!
