Wolves defender Jamie Clapham will lock horns with old boss George Burley’s Southampton tomorrow - and has warned his side they are in for a tough test on the south coast.
The Molineux left-back reckons he was in the form of his career when he played under Burley at Ipswich for five years.
And the veteran defender knows that the Scot’s Southampton side - who have only lost once at home this season - will provide another stiff test of Wolves’ promotion credentials.
“I think during my career playing under George was my most successful spell.
“We obviously won the play-offs and I played in Europe and the Premiership,” Clapham said. “It’ll be good to go back and play against him.
“It will make for a tough game. We are a team that likes to get the ball down and play and hopefully we can take a few of the positives of the Sheffield Wednesday match into that game.
“George does exceptionally well and he’s proven at this level. He gets teams out of this division.
“Southampton are another good team and I expect them to be up there at the end of the season.”
The full-back thinks his side have enough character to survive a tough week of fixtures.
“I think it’s a sign of the character of this team that we got a draw against Sheffield Wednesday. It was never going to be an easy game.”
Wolves’ excellent defensive record has slipped in the last two games - with the previously fearsome back four conceding five goals in two games.
But Clapham reckons it is only a temporary blip.
“Maybe a couple of errors in the last couple of games that have cost us,” he said.
“We’ll go back to being a solid four again. I don’t see it’s a problem but it is errors here and there, and it accumulates.”
