Bulldozers tear down pub

pub.jpgBulldozers today moved in to tear down an historic 140-year-old pub in Walsall to make way for the town’s new multi-million pound ring road.A team of construction workers was in charge of taking down the Littleton Arms pub, in Hatherton Street, this morning.

By noon, only the facade of the once-popular watering hole remained.

Tarpaulin lined the site as several onlookers and passers-by stood to watch the moment which will clear the way for a £16million ring road. Fixtures and fittings at the pub, which closed in July despite a massive campaign led by supporters, were only cleared this week.

Former licensee Sue Gull, who now runs the Tap and Spile in John Street, said she could not bring herself to go and watch the demolition. “I just can’t face it,” she said.

Thousands of fantastic holidays to choose from!
