New offices to bring 2,000 jobs

Up to 2,000 jobs will be created in the Black Country by the end of 2008 after developers revealed today that work on a massive office development near Junction 10 of the M6 is to start next spring.

It forms part of the £50 million Tempus Ten project to transform derelict land near the motorway in Walsall into a thriving business and leisure complex.

The Village Hotel, a three storey budget hotel and fast food chain KFC are already open for business and between them have created around 500 jobs.

Lingfield, the developer behind the project, today revealed more details about the 80,000 sq ft office complex.

It has already been granted planning permission for the scheme comprising a three storey office building facing on to Wolverhampton Road. Both other blocks would be two storeys and at the rear of the site.

Company director Jonathan Hart said: “The scheme is still going ahead and we expect to start work next spring. It will take around 18 months and we estimate will create up to 2,000 jobs.

“There has already been some interest in the development from companies and we will be looking to put the offices on the market once work is under way.”
