Bowater puts his faith in kids

New Wolves director John Bowater believes the club has a bright future after the financial restructuring of the summer.

Former Tarmac director Bowater, who specialises in finance, was appointed to the new-look Molineux board last week after the club scrapped plans to appoint a new chairman.

And the lifelong Wolves fan admits that, with no significant new investment the club, will have to start relying on young academy graduates to make their mark.

“From the outside looking in, Mick McCarthy is the right man at the right time. He has an excellent track record and seems to have that confidence to give the local lads a chance to prove themselves.

“Clearly the opportunity to bring the cheque book out is no longer there, so the younger players are the future of this football club.”

Bowater was approached by business associate and fellow board member Kevin Threlfall - and after meetings with Sir Jack Hayward and Jez Moxey last month he was appointed to the new-look Molineux board.

And the 57-year-old reckons he has been added to the board to bring the club closer to its Black Country roots.

“I’m a great believer that a football club should be part of the community. Our club sits in part of a community and it is a focal point. When the club does well it benefits the whole community.”

Bowater will add finance expertise and local business knowledge to the four man board, which consists of local businessmen Threlfall and John Gough alongside Chief Executive Jez Moxey.

“I am here to do all I can to help the current board. Clearly I have business contacts which I will be able to use to the benefit of the club and my main area of expertise is finance.”
