Arrests after car lands on roof

police4.jpgThe main road through Brownhills was closed to traffic for more than an hour after a car overturned and brought the area to a standstill.

The car landed on its roof at the junction of High Street and Church Road at around 7.30 last night. Two men have been arrested but it is still unclear how the car overturned, causing damage to two parked cars. Several witnesses have given evidence but police are appealing for more to come forward. Officers cordoned off the busy road as well as several routes off it.

The two-hour closures caused a headache for motorists who use High Street to travel to Norton Canes, Cannock, Aldridge and other destinations.

Drivers were forced to queue for more than an hour as firefighters and police officers carried out investigations.

Bloxwich Inspector Lisa Robson urged witnesses to come forward so they could piece together events leading up to the incident.

She said: “We have two people in custody and we have witnesses that have information on people involved in the accident.

“One car was overturned but we don’t know quite what happened.”

No-one was injured. It took several hours before all the roads were reopened. Anyone with information can call police on 0845 1135000 or Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555111.

Another car overturned in foggy conditions earlier today. Firefighters from Stafford and Aldridge were sent to Lazyhill Road, Aldridge, at 6.40am. The driver and passengers were unhurt but shaken.
