A Tividale primary school has been forced to close by burglars who caused a flood when they stole a £10 piece of piping. Water gushed undetected through the roof for hours, causing damage running into tens of thousands of pounds.
The burglars climbed onto the roof of Grace Mary Primary School in Hawfield Road. They pulled off the water pipe and then ran off, possibly in the early hours of Sunday. Mains pressure water gushed down through the roof until Monday morning.
Headteacher Linda Brown, pictured, said: “I am absolutely appalled.”
